Weatherall, Magda, Sander Van Doorn, and Loco Dice on the benefits of lossless files

It’s a known fact in the DJ community that lossless files are the way to go if you’re looking to deliver the highest-quality sound to your audience. If you’re playing big-room soundsystems, festival PAs—heck, anything larger than your bedroom—lossless files are the only way to ensure top-quality audio without the sound degradation that is inherent in MP3 compression.

DJ extraordinaire Sander van Doorn prefers “playing lossless files only,” he says. “As I want to guarantee my fans the best audio experience for every set.” And he’s definitely not the only one. Loco Dice echoes the sentiment, saying, “I play lossless files because the format contains uncompressed audio, gives me the maximum audio quality, and doesn’t fail when I combine digital files and vinyl records.”

Track Of The Day: Gullfisk - Green Waters

Reaching back into the catalog built by Commodore 69 and Konnekt‘s label, Hot N Heavy, it’s clear that they’ve always searched to provide a space for things a little more innovative than the turning trend. Even a short exploration will reveal that their imprint can’t be defined with one specific sound. Their most recent release, from the 21-year-old Belgian producer Gullfisk, cements that claim. Gullfisk’s EP, Move Me, brings yet another fresh set of sounds to the imprint, connecting bass-minded music with a smoothness of melody and mood.

Holy Ship! 2013 Announces Line-Up Including Justice, Boys Noize, Diplo, And More

Earlier this year, the folks behind Hard Fest began a new endeavor which, over the course of four days, used a cruise liner to bring party people from Florida to the Bahamas and then to a private island for a day-long beach party—all the while showcasing top-notch dance music talent behind the ones and twos. That tropical cruise/non-stop dance marathon was called Holy Ship!, and the details of the next edition have just been shared, including an absolutely stacked line-up of international DJs and producers.

Bomb Alert! Zombie Disco Squad & DJ Funk - Twerk

It’s one thing to profess a love of booty music—producers and DJs from almost every genre have a soft spot for the hard stuff. But it’s another to enlist the help of originator DJ Funk and deliver a track that not only adds to the ghetto-tech section of your record crate, but also broadens the booty vernacular with the refrain “Twerk dat shit to da club.”

Track Of The Day: Yakine - Rise feat. James Teej

James Teej is quite the man of the moment. Coming off a team-up with Sasha for his Last Night On Earth label, Teej’s most recent release comes in the form of another distinctive vocal collab with hotly tipped Parisian producer Yakine.

With early releases on Esperanza, Eklo, Jetaime, and Circus Company, Yakine’s latest EP, Rise, released exclusively this week on Beatport through Spectral Sound, is a slick four-tracker of his own take on the deeper side of house music.

Weekend Weapons: Andre Lodemann

Andre Lodemann is a veteran DJ/producer in the truest sense. The man has been turning out and stitching together pieces of deep, intelligent, and soulful house music for the better part of two decades, with a discography that spans across virtually all the big-name labels in his field: from Freerange to Buzzin’ Fly and, more recently, to his own Best Works imprint (just to name a few). Now he’s unleashed Fragments, a double-disc endeavor for Best Works, which collects a helping of Lodemann’s harder-to-find productions alongside a number of brand-new efforts and an entire disc of remixes. In light of his new achievement, we tapped him for our latest edition of Weekend Weapons, and Lodemann returned with seven time-tested gems for any and all DJ crates (or hard drives).

Pauly D to Deadmau5: “Being Hated On By deadmau5? #Priceless.”

So, it would appear that just when the dust had settled on Deadmau5‘s beef with Madonna, he’s got himself into another little sparring match, this time with Jersery Shore star Pauly D.

Bomb Alert! Inifniti - Think Quick

When you’re one of the historical figures responsible for inventing techno, it’s hard to imagine having an identity even more techno than techno. But that’s exactly the case with innovator Juan Atkins, who once described his Infiniti alter-ego as “purist techno,” compared to the more song-oriented Model 500 he is best known for.

Tomas Barfod talks about moving to LA, redefining himself, and what every drummer should know

To call Tomas Barfod‘s oeuvre “diverse” would be the understatement of the decade. Whether making electro-infused indie rock as the drummer in Denmark-based WhoMadeWho, doing his own disco-hued tracks as TomBoy, or crafting poppy, techno-informed electronic tunes under his own name, Barfod, like his music, just can’t keep still.

Yesterday, he released the gorgeous new album Salton Sea, on the Friends Of Friends label, after making a relatively recent move to Los Angeles from Copenhagen, and soaking in its indigenous culture. The LP shows yet another side of Barfod, perhaps a more introspective one that led him to make the achingly beautiful ”Broken Glass”—a poptronic symphony of a tune that’s been making the rounds in the blogosphere as Salton Sea‘s first single.

Track Of The Day: Joshua Harrison - Dissipation Of Heat

From what we’ve heard, it’s gonna so hot in the D this weekend (not “so cold”) that Movement attendees (who are usually caught up in the rain over the long-standing Memorial Day weekend festival) aren’t gonna know what to do with themselves. For those folks, we offer Joshua Harrison‘s ”Dissipation Of Heat” (get it?), from the currently exclusive-to-Beatport Movement 2012 Compilation, on D Records, as today’s Track Of The Day.
