Bomb Alert! Ray Foxx: The Trumpeter

Who, exactly, is Ray Foxx? His Facebook page doesn’t tell us much, and Defected aren’t being much more forthcoming. Whoever he is, he’s got a hit on his hands with “The Trumpeter.” Annie Mac has been caning it, along with Zane Lowe and Trevor Nelson, and it went straight to the top of the DMC Ibiza buzz chart almost as soon as it aired.

It’s not hard to hear why; between the loping piano groove, whipcracking handclaps, and that unmistakable trumpet solo, this tune is an instant crowdpleaser. Foxx could have titled it “Dishes,” because this one is gonna get rinsed this summer.

“The Trumpeter” is out today on Beatport; get it here now.

Cesare Marchese: Aether

Formerly known as Cesare vs Disorder [a], Cesare Marchese makes peace with disorder, retires his slightly schizo alias, and emerges under his own name with this new EP for Berlin’s Vakant [l] label.

The “Aether” EP marks a significant step for both Marchese and Vakant, with four varied tracks that run from psychedelically tinged tech house to indie-flavored disco. The title track is definitely the hit here, with an infectious chorus and brightly colored keyboards, vaguely reminiscent of Four Tet or Caribou, swirling around a rock-steady drum groove.

But every track bears checking out: “Ferni & Fefe Fightin’” is a slow-motion disco burner that gets deep inside your head; “Little Vakant” is a pop-influenced tune you could easily imagine on DFA, and “Onirik-a” is the B-side’s secret weapon—try it out and see.

The EP is fresh out this week; get it here, and keep reading to hear more of Cesare’s music.

Destroyers: Weird Day

We’re not gonna pretend to have ANY idea whatsoever as to what is going on in this video from Elektroshok Records’ Destroyers and Guau. A Macedonian middle-aged jump-style crew? A hunting party’s ritualistic dance of gratitude? A trip to the whiskey still gone horribly awry?

Chances are we’ll never know. Still, 1.4 million views can’t be wrong. The tune is apparently coming soon on Beatport; keep an eye out on the Elektroshok Records page.

Hey Today!: Minor

Hey Today! enlisted the Indian director Samrat Parmar to direct this saucy, action-packed video for their new single, “Minor.” Shot in the Philippines and starring local acting students, it’s an engagingly low-budget featurette that may remind you of the split-screen classic, Timecode.

The Hamburg duo’s single is fresh out on Kitsune [a] [l], featuring additional remixes from Black Strobe [a], Para One [a], Abstraxion, and TWR72. Check it out here, or keep reading to hear samples.

Beatport comes to El Row for Sónar weekend

We’re just 10 days away from the Sónar festival, and Beatport has lined up some very special events to make this year’s trip to Barcelona all the more unforgettable.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 17 through 19, we’re partnering with El Row to bring you three essential after-parties with top-shelf lineups in one of Barcelona’s most impressive venues. (Just check out these galleries on Resident Advisor for a taste of the space and the vibe.)

It all kicks off Friday morning at 6:30am—that is, once Thursday night’s parties have shut down—with DJs Victor Calderone [a], Paco Osuna [a], and Giancarlino, plus live sets from Masomenos [a] and Barem [a]. That’s just in the main room; the open-air space hosts Minus [a] [l] artists Troy Pierce [a], Ambivalent [a], Heartthrob [a] (live), plus a special, unannounced guest. The festivities wrap up at 2:30pm—just in time to head home for a disco nap before heading out for Friday night.

On Saturday, the lineup’s even bigger. Row Club hosts a special CLR [l] showcase featuring Chris Liebing [a], Terence Fixmer [a] (live), Tommy Four Seven [a], Brian Sanhaji [a] (live), Monobloc, and Perc [a]. The Viva Music [l] showcase takes over Row Air, with Steve Lawler [a] and special guest Radio Slave [a] performing an extended B2B session, along with sets from Leon and Darius Syrossian. And in the Row Bar, Undrez presents Lucio Aquilina [a] & Massimo Di Lena, Tom Novy [a], Milton Jackson [a], Federico Molinari [a], and special guests. As on Friday, Saturday’s party runs from 6:30am until 2:30pm.

Sunday is the chance for clubbers to show their stamina: the party runs a full 12 hours, from 6:30am until 6:30pm. In Row Club, Drumcode presents an all-star lineup of Adam Beyer [a], Ben Sims [a], Paul Ritch [a], and Joseph Capriati [a]. Umek [a] and Uto Karem [a] headline Row Air, with support from Marc Maya vs. Mario Biani, Tony Varga, and Oscar Aguilera vs. De La Swing. And in the Row Bar, Danny Howells [a], Shlomi Aber [a], and Ralf Kollmann & Rodriguez Jr. (live) head up the bill, with support from Sergio Bernardi, Rossko, Jordi Angulo, Javi Sampol, and more special guests.

Located just 10 minutes from downtown Barcelona, and just two minutes away from the beach, El Row is offering free shuttle service from multiple points in Barcelona—the Sónar by night, Plaza Cataluña, the East Ender Festival, and Sala Razzmatazz.

Check El Row’s official website and Facebook page for more information, and keep reading to check out flyers for all three parties.
