Redskin (Agnes Remix)

Liapin [Connect Four]

Switzerland has been helping to lead the deep house revival in 2008, and the output of Agnes [a] in particular has been particularly refreshing.

Having graduated in the minimal scene with his 2007 longplayer ‘Dumbles Debut’, Agnes’ remix of Liapin ‘Redskin’ taken from his ‘Tonkawa’ EP shows how his sound has become fuller and more loop based.

Plastic Dreams (Audion Can't Go Home Mix)

Jaydee [R&S]

If you see the world in keywords, like I do, then this release is one heck of a search. Jaydee [a]. ‘Plastic Dreams.’ Audion. Whoa.

It’s hard to touch 1993’s original ‘Plastic Dreams’: That simple little chord, riff, and rollicking breakbeat still does dastardly things to dancefloors; an evergreen energy-booster.

Pac Man

John Keys [Triebstoff]

Triebstoff has long held a reputation for high-quality, groove-heavy techno and tech-house - indeed, the label was the first to be distributed by electronic behemoth Kompakt [l], nearly ten years ago.

This new outing from ‘John Keys’ is in fact the work of Chilean masters Dandy Jack [a] and Andre Garcia, who last popped up together on Crosstown Rebels [l] with the excellent ‘Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Tsedong?’.

Forty Winks

Ada [IRR (International Records Rec...

It’s only three releases in, but the Areal sister label IRR has delivered nothing but quality so far, with the likes of DJ Koze and Jon Daly offering up a distinctly leftfield slant on the prevalent deep house moods of the moment.

Ada’s first release for the label continues the form, with two tracks of sweet, soothing electronics.

Formart

Fabienne [Apparition Recordings]

Polish label Apparition Recordings [l] is an interesting new discovery for us recently.

While the previous two releases on the label were more conceptual electronica, the new ‘Formart’ EP from Fabienne [a] features three uncomplicated dubby techno and tech house tracks in a similar style to the recent output of Move D & Benjamin Brunn, Touane [a] or the more dancefloor-orientated works of early Murcof [a]

Chart: Famous When Dead VI

Todd Terje [Various]

Titled after the compilation series that highlights their standouts of the year, Playhouse’s Norwegian wunderkind Todd Terje [a] presents us with a new disco-centric chart on Beatport.

Responsible for some of the hottest disco remixes and productions that have been coming down the pike nonstop lately, Terje has compiled some of his personal faves, including his own smoky and richly textured exotic rework of Simon Baker’s ‘Plastik’ from last summer, also featured on the actual compilation.

Top 10 DJ Chart

Seth Troxler [Various]

As a sort of celebratory nod towards the release of Seth Troxler’s ‘Love Never Sleeps’, we decided to highlight his current Beatport Top 10 for your listening pleasure.

Although the one-to-watch tag is often lazily thrown around, Troxler’s recent output has garnered him with the title, thanks in part to the aforementioned Crosstown Rebels [l] release and his recent ‘Sexplosion EP’ effort under his Sex Trothler [a] moniker for Wagon Repair [l]

Rabimmel With A Vengeance

DJ Koze, Ada, Dee Pulse, Basteroid...

As was the case last year, Hamburg’s DJ Koze [a] has had a quietly assured 2008.

Choosing to throw himself further into the leftfield via remixes for Noze [a], Matias Aguayo [a] and most notably Sascha Funke [a], it was only on his delectable ‘Let’s Love/I Want To Sleep’ double-header that the producer found himself in a space somewhere near to the ‘normality’ of a club track.

Comptine D´un Autre Ete L. ‘Apre Midi

Jay Haze & Yann Tierson [Tuning Spo...

If you didn’t know already, this is ‘that one’ from the charming French flick ‘Amelie’ - you know, the one with the twinkling pianos that plays regularly throughout the film as the doe-faced starlet bumbles about in Paris.

While to some this Haze-ified rework will sound somewhat on the twee side, those with a weakness for pretty, plaintive melodies will be overjoyed to see that this is finally available on Beatport.

Falko Brocksieper [Sub Static]

It’s been a good year for Sub Static [l] boss Falko Brocksieper [a], who’s acclaimed ‘Heavy Day’ album combined classic house moods and up-to-date production finesse in fine style.

Hot on its heels comes this double header, and it’s the kind of high-class, low-slung roller we’ve come to expect.

Equilibrium

King Roc [Mutual Society]

Conceptual dance music is a rare breed in today’s ‘churn them out and start the next one’ disposable music world, but King Roc [a] is here to fix that.

Music made with a storyline, ‘Equilibrium’ (and his previous releases on Mutual Society) are future classics, with more in mind than obvious gimmicks simply used to gain chart placement.

Hooked (Remixes)

Tiger Stripes [Liebe Detail Spezial...

‘Hooked’ was one of the biggest hits to date for Hamburg tech house imprint Liebe Detail [l], and went some way to introducing veteran Swedish producer Tiger Stripes [a] to a whole new audience.

Now, it’s time for a new lease of life for the track, via a snazzy pair of mixes from Guy Gerber [a] and Solomun [a].

Sex Trothler [Wagon Repair]

Time to get your sleaze on as Detroit dude Seth Troxler debuts on Wagon Repair, in his Sex Trothler guise (arf, arf).

Smirking aside, this pair of deeply alluring cuts prove that the much-vaunted Troxler is more than capable of living up to the hype.

Haunted House Of Horror

Jacob London and Big Hair [U-Freqs]...

Tucked away in the typically dark and abandoned back catalog on Beatport resides a ‘Haunted House of Horror.’

This is the perfect Halloween record for tech house troublemakers.

It’s a release that captures the true essence of Halloween with a slight touch of funky playfulness.

A secret weapon designed for those who want to do something much more creative than playing Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ for the 10th year in a row.

Sandstorm EP

Stewart Walker [Persona]

In a world of uncertainties, it’s good to have things you can rely on - like Stewart Walker and Marco “Touane” Tonne’s Persona [a] [l] imprint.

Following the deep abstractions of his last EP, here Walker turns his attention more firmly to the dancefloor, with typically excellent results.
