Spraycan EP

Renaissance Man [Dubsided]

Have you ever been sitting at your desk, on a bus, or in line at the bank, and been listening to music on your headphones, and before you know it, you realize you’ve been very vigorously bopping your head up and down making a complete ass of yourself in public for the last five minutes?

Well, that happened to me this morning. After a few sniggers and some sideways glances from the people around me, I realized what I was doing and thought I’d better check to see what had caused this embarrassing, albeit welcome, involuntary reaction.

To my (non) surprise it was the playful, horn-laced, but heavy-hitting bass sounds of the new Dubsided [l] EP ‘Spraycan’.

Focus On: Boysnoize Records

Various Artists [Boysnoize Records]...

With 11 loud and lairy indie dance/electro classics on one release, listening to ‘Focus On: Boysnoize Records’ is like having a large glass of hydrochloric acid tossed in your face.

Ok maybe that doesn’t sound like much fun, and that would be doing this marvelous release a major injustice as all of its tunes are a rip-roaring delight, but they do serve as a bleeding-great-big call to arms for anyone who likes their dance music noisy and rock-tinged.

So It Goes (A Day In The Life) (Feat. MC Flipside)

Bart B More [Toolroom]

Dutch producer Bart B More [a] has been a regular fixture in the Beatport Top 10 charts for months with his remixes of Chocolate Puma ‘Touch Me’ and his original production ‘Finally’ making it to No.1 and No.2 respectively.

‘So It Goes’, which was originally released on Toolroom in 2007, now gets a new vocal from electro house’s go-to MC Flipside which will probably help it become his biggest hit to date. Pete Tong has already named it his Essential New Tune.

Kelevra feat. Whiskey Pete ‘Jak Muzik’

Kelevra [Fidget Kingdom]

Take one part old school rave, add two parts fidget house, sprinkle it with a bit of hip house, and you’ve made the perfect club tune reckons Kelevra [a], the man behind the tasteful ‘Jak Muzik’.

Cause And Effect EP

Montero [Flat Belly Recordings]

Ever since Montero’s ‘Captain Hook’ dropped on Renaissance in 2006 I’ve been a big fan of the Belfast duo’s music. Their chunky progressive house cuts always wink at electro house but never fully embrace the brashness, and they always work on the floor.

As such, Montero has become a firm favourite for DJs like James Zabiela (who included ‘Captain Hook’ on his famed ‘Utilities’ mix compilation), Sasha and Sander Kleinenberg.

Their new ‘Cause And Effect’ EP on Ricky Stone’s Flat Belly Recordings is another example of the kind of quality pumping house they’ve become accomplished at.

DJ Chart

Jaimie Fanatic [various artists]

Rotterdam-based producer Jaimie Fanatic [a] is about to blow up with a new single out on Mad Decent [l] that officially initiates him into Diplo’s crew. They’re proving to be one of the tightest, coolest, and most successful music-production rings in the business, moving glowsticks in Boise as easily as they’re shaking asses in Baltimore.

Top 10 DJ Chart

Sébastien Léger [Various Artists]...

French DJ Sebastien Leger [a] is one of the most popular artists on Beatport with his productions nearly always hitting the Top 10.

But whilst his solo productions sit somewhere in between electro, progressive house and tech house, his recent DJ chart on Beatport shows a darker, more techno-orientated side to this talented spinner.

The Deep End

Curses! [Institubes]

Luca Venezia – aka NYC’s bassline champion Drop The Lime [a] – returns with a swagger to the Institubes stage behind his housier guise, Curses! [a], to offer a TWA (tune wiv attiude) that will smack you round the face and leave your sorry ass battered and bruised.

That’s a good thing, though. Forget all this softly-softly dance music that wouldn’t even offend your Grandma these days, ‘The Deep End’ sticks it to the man, middle finger up, jeans ripped, nipple pierced.

Guess What (Electrixx Remix)

Felguk [Plasmapool]

In a scene associated with illegal substances, ‘Guess What’ doesn’t help out with its herbal references.

But who cares about that, when you’ve got quality beats like this?

The People

Sebastien Leger [Pryda Friends]

Do you like ‘the beautiful people’? Well, Sebastien Leger [a] and Marilyn Manson sure do.

In this fusion between grunge and top-notch electro, Léger shows how powerful one unique sample can be.

Second Nature EP

Santiago & Bushido [Potty Mouth Mus...

Chicago’s boys of the new school Santiago & Bushido [a] take the helm on this four-track electro monstrosity, with three originals and a rework from fellow Chicagoan house don Johnny Fiasco [a].

‘Can’t Be Wrong (Original Mix)’, in typical style, dishes out a sassy looping vocal that finds itself ‘freaking all night long’ against a raging electro bassline.

Olivier Giacomotto [Definitive Reco...

Who the hell is Olivier Giacomotto?

This French producer’s rise to the top of electro house circles has been impressive.

Having stormed dancefloors with his ‘Sofa King/Good’ release on John Acquaviva’s Definitive Records in 2008, he’s since remixed for some of the biggest labels on the scene including Cr2 Records [l] and mau5trap [l].

Ultraviolence (Vitalic Remix)

Heartsrevolution [Kitsune]

What’s happened to Vitalic [a] since ‘OKCowboy?’ Seriously. This seminal album was released nearly four years ago, and will undoubtedly stand the test of time as being one of the most devastating and dynamic electronic albums of the 21st century.

For the past few years we have been teased and taunted with a live album and a few choice remixes from this electro-uber-God, this remix being a prime example of cutting French electro house.
