Boxcutter’s latest album on Planet Mu, ‘Arecibo Message’ has been described by many as his greatest and most intelligent body of work yet.
‘A Familiar Sound’ lifted straight off the album, and originally released on his own label Kinnego Records, see’s Barry Lynn opt for a more jazzy, off step vocal feel, a vibe which brings this Northern Irish producer into new territory.

Jamie Vex’d [Planet Mu]
Jamie Vex’d has had a busy year what with re-locating to Berlin, having his first child and embarking on his ambitious solo career, so it’s amazing that he’s still managing to lead the electronica and dubstep pack with his ingenuity in the studio.
This track, his first solo release since departing ways with Roly Porter is a science fiction, soul driven mind bender of a track with obscure beat patterns and deep vocal samples.

Traumatic Times
LD [Hyperdub]
London’s LD has been mastering records for some of the scene’s most influential producers down at the infamous Transition studios, and it is through his experiences of listening to some of the finest crafted dubstep sounds around that he has now managed to perfect his own unique style.
His previous recordings with Kode 9 had leaned towards the funkier sounds coming out of urban London with ‘2 Bad’ bringing the tempo right down and reaching out to the house crowd.

Berlin resident producer to the stars, DJ Maxximus has taken a big influence from the techno haven’s latest resident, Shackleton in this tribal and percussive dubstep record.
Having spun a few too many Skull Disco records in his time, Maxximus, aka Frederic Stader has adopted a different direction with his sound, adding some maliciously produced percussive beats with chest rattling bass rhythms.

Something’s afoot in the murky, subdued hollows of Bristol town.
The once deep bass rattlings of techno-fuelled dubstep that could be heard emanating throughout the entire city have changed their tone and now something sleeker and more ghetto is emerging.
Joker and his Kapsize imprint have been an integral part in the musical development within the city, combining the urban textures of grime with the futuristic composition of the Los Angeles wonky sound.

The Soul Motive camp is fast becoming referred to as the label pushing the boundaries when it comes to what people associate with contemporary dubstep.
Soul Motive release number three comes courtesy of Shamaji from the Sub Swara collective based out of New York, and is an eastern-influenced rhythm with bangra beats, sublime vocals and heavy bass.

It had to happen eventually: the two Dutch dubstep techno producers who’ve found inspiration for names in postal districts have finally teamed up on this deep, two-step release.
2562, who otherwise treats us to his techno productions under the moniker A Made Up Sound, dropped the acclaimed ‘Aerial’ album last year on Tectonic, and now follows up with a tasty little dubstep record on Martyn’s 3024 imprint.

Mount Kimbie were included in the handful of artists selected by Beatportal as ones to watch in 2009, and this, their debut release on Hotflush Recordings is a clear indication as to why they were chosen.
With an extended intro consisting of nothing more than reverberated guitars, the 2 step kick shuffle kicks in at around 1:30, with added claps, clicks and sublime child like vocal snippets thrown in.

The rise of Synkro through the ranks has been relatively subtle, with a few releases scattered between the Smoking Sessions and Dubbed Out labels.
With these few releases under his belt Synkro has already managed to scratch out a characteristic sound leaning towards old school garage, whilst simultaneously showcasing his heavy Burial influence.
