Finally, ending a two year hiatus after their vinyl distributor went under, Hallucination Recordings is back (in a way).

Label boss and legendary DJ Three [a] has finally started the process of making the content available digitally for the first time ever under the new label Hallucination Limited.

Kelevra feat. Whiskey Pete ‘Jak Muzik’

Kelevra [Fidget Kingdom]

Take one part old school rave, add two parts fidget house, sprinkle it with a bit of hip house, and you’ve made the perfect club tune reckons Kelevra [a], the man behind the tasteful ‘Jak Muzik’.

Don’t Be So Drumattic

Drumattic Twins [Finger Lickin' Rec...

Finger Lickin’ rarely miss a beat when it comes to breaks, and you only have to look back through their history of over 100 releases to see that each record is a genuine classic.

The Drumattic Twins [a] have been responsible for quite a lot of those as well as a few big rave anthems under their previous moniker Shades of Rhythm, and with this slice cut from their forthcoming album they’ve really turned up the heat.

Tech You (Karl Sav Remix)

Sidel [KDB Breaks]

One up and coming talent within the breaks community is Karl Sav, and if there’s any justice this guy should walk away with the ‘Best Newcomer’ award at this years Breakspoll.

The track itself is the ultimate combination of two rising global breaks artists, Karl Sav originating from Australia coming face to face with Russia’s Sidel.

Records Back (Robosapiens Mix)

Hardy Hard, Lady Waks and Mr.X [Re...

Hardy Hard [a] and Lady Waks [a] stormed to the front of modern day breakbeat back in 2007 with their cheeky parody on ‘Minimal’ music - the Rogue Element remix ended up becoming one of the biggest breakbeat anthems of that year.

Now they’re back with a party breaks tune that has a similar note structure to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Sexyback’, and comes with a storming nu-skool breaks remix from Robosapiens [a]. This time they attack laptop DJs.

I Don’t Think So

MKM & GBX [iBreaks Bass]

MKM [a] & GBX [a] are the hottest things to come out of the Brazilian breaks scene and have already been snapped up by J.Mekka down at iBreaks to do a series of releases on the iBreaks Bass label.

This is a high octane release, with powerful driving beats and progressive reverberating synths reminiscent of the breaks sound a few years back, but with extra balls.

Sticky Finger (Tom Real & The Rogue Element Mix)

Rob Le Pitch [777]

If you want a good remix you call in The Rogue Element [a], if you want a great remix you call in Tom Real & The Rogue Element.

Collectively these guys produce under the moniker, Disco of Doom and together have been responsible for demonically reconstructing some of the biggest hits within the breakbeat realm, including their infamous remix of Noisia’s ‘Gutterpump’ which won best remix at the 2006 Breakspoll.

Where Were U in 92?

Zomby [Werk Discs]

The sleeve notes to this album say it all: ‘Dedicated to 2BadMice, Shut Up & Dance, Lennie De Ice, Slipmatt...’, the list goes on, but you get the point: this is an homage to the early nineties rave movement in the UK.

With Zomby’s previous hits on Hyperdub [l] and Ramp [a] you might have been expecting a dark, chunky dubstep offering. Well don’t.

Precinct

Stanton Warriors [Punks]

Back to dominate breakbeat, the Stanton Warriors [a] have returned with a fresh batch of bangers and bootlegs to entice those into their ghetto booty, Baltimore breaks.

This time taking influence from John Carpenter, the boys have paid homage to the film ‘Attack of Precinct 13’, by taking the soundtrack and amalgamating it into an electro breaks tune.

All The Cash

Evil Nine [Marine Parade]

By far the standout track from Evil’s zombie infested new album ‘They Live’, this track fuses the characteristic Evil Nine [a] sound with the angsty lyrics of Def Jux head honco, El-P [a].

A step up from ‘You Can Be Special Too’, the track holds the same rolling properties as previous hit ‘Crooked’, yet with more drops, synths, and an added potency behind the beats.

Tonight

UnderThis [Distinctive]

UnderThis [a] are part of a wave of fresh new breaks talent emerging from the east.

Amongst the likes of 4Kuba [a], Lady Waks [a] and Access Denied [a] [l], UnderThis are adding a new dimension to the wealth of contemporary breaks talent.

80808 Dub

Bassbin Twins [Bassbin Twins]

Pete Houser, aka Bassbin Twins [a] (yes he’s only one man, but pretends to be two to get more money for live gigs, probably) is totally removed from other breaks producers within his field.

In terms of production, style and ingenuity Bassbin Twins is in a league of his own, and the new ballistic breaks bomb ‘80808 Dub’ shows why.

Shifting Gears (Stanton Warriors Remix)

Plump DJs [Finger Lickin Records]

Unbelievably, the Stanton Warriors and the Plump DJs have never paired up before, so the partnership of two of the largest and most influential groups in breakbeat is a news event indeed.

Since ‘Shifting Gears’ was dropped by the Stantons at this year’s Glastonbury festival, the internet has been buzzing with rumours about the track’s imminent arrival, and finally those rumours have come true.

A1 - D1

Gescom [Skam Records]

I really wanted to like this release for a number of reasons, but mainly because a) Skam Records [l] is one of the few labels that doesn’t give a toss about what’s going on on the outside world and puts out the music it likes, no matter how unpalatable that may be.

And b) because Gescom [a] is an umbrella organisation with a fluid line up — it is reckoned that it has up to 20 active, mainly anonymous members — an anarchic approach that goes against the egotism that is central to DJ culture.

FIlthy Dirty

Def Inc. [Botchit Breaks]

I surf the music-net a lot, keeping my eyes and ears peeled for the clever and euphonious.

When it comes to breaks, there’s not a lot I don’t like.

Take Def Inc.’s recent release on Botchit Breaks, ‘Filthy Dirty’.
