WMC Video: Behind the scenes with Gui Boratto

Here’s a fun behind-the-equipment look at Gui Boratto and his live set-up used at the Beatport Pool Party during WMC.

Getting this type of sneak peek into the operations of someone who continually does no wrong doesn’t happen as often as we’d like.

Track ID anyone?

Jay-J starts over

New York-based producer Jay-J is joined by the soul-drenched vocals of Latrice on the Shifted Music release ‘Starting Over’, a seductive tour de force of jazzy house that owes more to his previous West Coast roots than the tougher sounds usually associated with the Big Apple.

Joseph John Hernandez has been one of the principle players in quality soulful house for close to a decade with releases on nearly all the quality homes of the genre.

WMC 2008 Videos: Laidback Luke ‘Break Down The House’

It just so happens that Laidback Luke’s latest track, ‘Break Down The House’, was being thrown down on the decks at the Beatport Pool Party when this video was captured.

Based on the reaction of the crowd, the track has a strong future ahead of it.

But who is the DJ?

WMC 2008 Panels: Legends of House

Ok so the panel wasn’t actually called “Legends of House”, but that’s what I call it.

It was actually called “Electronic Music — History Made Fresh”.

First, let’s go over who was on the panel:

UK club review: Slinky

After a Halloween Ball with Marco V in 2006, the Slinky organisers swore they’d never return to the Opera House in Bournemouth.

A year and a half later and clubbers have already been treated to three Slinky events in 2008, with more to be confirmed over the next few months.

Good Friday saw up and coming DJs Bart Claessen and Michael Dow join Ferry Corsten for a night of banging trance and electro in the newly refurbished venue.

WMC 2008: Christian Prommer Approves

Beatportal bumped into Christian Prommer [pictured] soaking up the sun and sweet grooves at the Beatport Pool Party.

He said it has been his favorite party of the week, which is quite the compliment considering how many parties have been going on.

Also nearby was Munich-based Compost Records founder Michael Reinboth, who was also soaking up a good time the Beatport Pool Party.

WMC Track ID: Richie Hawtin’s big tune

Mory Kante’s ‘Yeke Yeke’ is one of the biggest dance tracks of all time, and yesterday Richie Hawtin smashed the Beatport pool party in Miami at The National Hotel with a special edit of the famous track.

But we’ve never heard that edit before, so we need a Track ID.

Anyone know who did the edit of ‘Yeke Yeke’ that Hawtin played?

F*** Me I’m A Poser

We went to David Guetta’s F*** Me I’m Famous party and the club was rammed full of well dressed posers.

Whilst we were there, we came up with the headline ‘F*** Me I’m A Poser’ and thought it was pretty appropriate for the club night.

It’s weird how certain types of dance music attract certain types of people. And David Guetta’s music always seems to attract girls and the Champagne-swigging table service lot.

It’s a dog’s world

We’ve been handing out quite a lot of Beatport stuff during the last few days. And it’s nice to see that it’s being used.

This little adorable doggy has found a use for our little green Beatport bags - her owner is carrying her around in it.

We thought it was sweet story to tell on the last day of our Miami WMC 2008 Beatport pool parties.

We’ll try to fit in more interviews and WMC tracks, but it’s about time the Beatportal team started joining in the fun so there’s no guarantees.

WMC Track: Laurent Garnier ‘The Man With The Red Face’ (Mark Knight edit)

Mark Knight has just finished playing an excellent set at the Beatport pool party, and the biggest track of his mix by far was a special Mark Knight edit of Laurent Garnier’s ‘The Man With The Red Face’.

When those sexy saxophones came in, The National Hotel went insane. The funk is back, baby.

The chords and basslines in ‘The Man With The Red Face’ are so perfect, and Mark Knight’s version toughened up the beats a little, creating a quality club slaying track (or pool party destroyer in this case).

Look out for this!

WMC interview: Davide Squillace

Beatportal just sat down with the lovely Italian producer and DJ Davide Squillace.

Yesterday Davide played back to back with Dubfire at the Beatport pool party, and their set rocked.

We’re a huge fan of Davide Squillace’s sick minimal techno productions, and the fact that he’s resident DJ of Circoloco at DC10 in Ibiza makes him one of the most important DJs in underground dance music.

Here’s a quick interview with Davide.

WMC Video: M.A.N.D.Y. playing Noze ‘Dance With Me’

As posted here on Beatportal on Friday, M.A.N.D.Y finished off their set at the Beatport Pool Party on Friday with Noze ‘Dance With Me’, a killer new Bavarian-style tech house track.

Check out this video capturing the moment and all the fun that went along with it.

The video is after the jump.

WMC 2008: We’re ready for Richie Hawtin…

Oh the life of a globetrotting DJ must be hard.

You fly around the world playing at cool parties. Everybody loves you. You leave and jet off to another cool party somewhere else.

In preparation for Richie Hawtin’s set today at the Beatport pool party we splashed some dough on some Champagne for Richie and his crew.

WMC Video: DJ Scratch @ Remix Hotel Miami

The party must’ve been happening outside, but it was inside that the education that was happening at the Native Instruments booth of Remix Hotel Miami.

DJ Scratch was layin’ down the cuts during this demonstration, set up specifically as a live tutorial for Traktor.

Check out his moves after the jump.

WMC Track: Milton Jackson ‘Ghosts In My Machine’

Guess what? Milton Jackson ‘Ghosts In My Machine’ is turning out to be a WMC 2008 track after all.

Beatportal has heard it four times already during the conference, and Ryan Elliott and Matthew Dear, who are playing back to back at the Beatport pool party at the moment, have just dropped it.
