21 December, 2007 | 1.10PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
Blu Mar Ten have been making great music for almost a decade now - Leo Wyndham and Chris Marigold, with new addition Michael Tognarelli – the driving force behind the established within the drum & bass act.
With supporters including a diverse set of DJs such as Tom ‘The Jedi’ Middleton, Felix da Housecat, Ben Watt, Carl Cox, Lee Burridge, Erol Alkan and Mary Anne Hobbs, the group defy pigeonholing.

HiLo gets percussive with HiLo Sound Tools
20 December, 2007 | 11.21AM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
Budding producers, DJs and creative sorts take note: HiLo Sound Tools is a terrific and terribly useful thing to have around.
On the first installment, ‘HiLo Sound Tools Volume 1 Percapellas’, there’s over 80-minutes of live conga solos for all you budding Master At Work wannabes, and 11 percapellas (percussive loops) covering everything from the funky house to the twisted sound of tribalism.
Denis The Menace and Big World get ‘Fired Up’
19 December, 2007 | 11.18AM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
Although there’s just only the one mix at the moment, the buzz on Denis The Menace & Big World version of ‘Fired Up’ should be enough to sustain the delay awaiting the inevitable remix package in the New Year.
It is of course a remake of Oscar Getan and Ralph Falcon’s stunning, yet ever so simple, Funky Green Dogs twisted anthem from back in 1996.

Celeda is ‘Amazing’
18 December, 2007 | 12.08PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
“Dark, deep and devilish good” was how I first described Celeda’s ‘The Underground’ when I first heard it at the start of the decade.
The kitsch wordy tale of being taken to the underground became an instant “underground” anthem and an acapella essential ever since.

Letters
Koma and Bones [Burrito Records]
17 December, 2007 | 4.18PM- Section: Music Reviews
Oh dear!
You all know this track.
If you don’t, then you’re in for a fucking treat because popping your cherry to ‘Letters’ is akin to the roughest shag you’ve ever had in your life – right up against the bedpost.

Guadalupe EP
Panico [Tigersushi]
17 December, 2007 | 4.07PM- Section: Music Reviews
Panico are perhaps Chile’s best known musical export, who through a random meeting in a Parisian book shop have not only swapped views of the Andes for the Eiffel tower by taking up permanent residence in the French capital, but also managed to bag themselves a deal on über hip Indie label Tigersushi.

Q Fresa (Original Mix)
Mikael Stavostrand [Sushitech]
17 December, 2007 | 3.50PM- Section: Music Reviews
The Andomat 3000 mix of this release from Sweden’s Mikael Stavostrand has hammered clubs to pieces.
But hooky as it is, it’s essentially a percussive loop that does little else for the duration of the track unless you mix it with another loop or a vocal.

Wellenreiter
Boris Brejcha [Harthouse]
17 December, 2007 | 3.27PM- Section: Music Reviews
If a music reviewer in the digital age has one purpose, it’s surely to filter out the abundance of rubbish for his or her readers’ information.
Nowhere is that more true on this track by Harthouse newcomer Boris Brejcha, whose album ‘Die Maschinen sind Gestrandet’ contains numerous pearls of wonky, spiky electro-fied tech-house goodness.

Two Of Us
Supermayer [Kompakt]
17 December, 2007 | 3.11PM- Section: Music Reviews
Michael Mayer and Superpitcher’s album, ‘Supermayer Save The World’, has divided their fans with its bold voyages into folk, disco and ambient, but most listeners seem to agree that this roaring monster is the album’s dancefloor highlight.
First aired at Sonar earlier this year, ‘Two Of Us’ is, like all the best minimal techno, simply formed but devastatingly delivered.

‘I Can’t Help Myself’ is remixed
17 December, 2007 | 12.02PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
One of the biggest club tracks on dance radio (at least in the UK and mainland Europe), and for all the right reasons too is ‘I Can’t Help Myself’ by Bellatrax featuring Sophia May’s assured vocal display.
The reason is simple: the Italian’s have a knack for crafting oh-so-simple disco-house infused numbers, and so does UK songwriter to the stars Bruce Elliott-Smith.

Sandman
Dirty Funker [Spirit Recordings]
14 December, 2007 | 3.46PM- Section: Music Reviews
Sandman shows us how it’s done with a stinking, fetid, funky monster of an electro house boomer.
Probably inspired by the big, nasty Sandman destroying sections of New York in the hugely-disappointing laughing-stock that was the Spider-Man 3 movie, this production is made up of fizzing, resonant lumps of bass and heavily-compressed, funneled beats replete with cleverly-worked, cymbal crashes that ricochet all over the place and some subtle but vital metallic percussion that sneaks around deep inside the stereo field.

Scream / Steam
DJ Fresh [Breakbeat Kaos]
14 December, 2007 | 3.23PM- Section: Music Reviews
There are a lot of drum & bass kingpins returning to the fold after long hiatuses this month, not least DJ Fresh – a man who at one time was the undisputed champion of drum & bass production.
Fresh changed the way D & B was made forever, and so it goes without saying that there’s a lot of hype around ‘Scream’ and ‘Steam’.

Speed Kills release ‘Stay In The Groove’
14 December, 2007 | 1.02PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
Eleven years since it was first introduced to us, acts like Hong Kong Trash, Desert and even Lil Devious, Liverpool’s Glow Records label returns after a hiatus with a brand new Speed Kills single.
‘Stay In The Groove’ is built around a riff from Paul Young’s 1980s catalogue of pop crossovers, ‘Come Back And Stay’, and is subtle enough to draw you in with that oh-so-familiar sounding charm, yet not overly obvious to alienate clubbers with misconceptions.

Berlin-based, DJ duo Trickski (aka Yannick Labbe and Daniel Becker) count Carl Craig as one of their fondest admirers.
The Detroit legend’s feelings towards the pair are readily made clear by this, and any one of the Members Of Trick releases you care to mention.
Work / Odyssee I
2000 and One / Len Faki [Podium]
13 December, 2007 | 3.14PM- Section: Music Reviews
Podium boss Len Faki is planning to put out three installments of ‘Odyssee’ and then knock the series on the head.
While it is still unclear about his plans for the follow up releases, the first release makes it hard for them to raise the intensity stakes.
