Oscillators: Mixing and Blending
31 October, 2007 | 1.52PM- Section: Music News Topics: Guide To Synthesis, Technology
Once you understand the harmonic characteristics of the basic oscillator waveforms, the real fun begins. By tuning and mixing various waves, you can create entirely new sounds from scratch.
This week, we’ll cover the essentials of how to tune and mix oscillators.
Note: If you want to follow along at home, fire up your demo version of Reason, create a Subtractor synth and make sure oscillator two is turned on (the orange box next to “Osc 2” should glow).

The London EP
Jon Rundell [HardAsFunk]
31 October, 2007 | 9.52AM- Section: Music Reviews
Former Intec Records label manager Jon Rundell continues his impressive development as a producer in his own right with this four track EP on Paul Janes’ HardAsFunk label that sits somewhere on the boundary of techno and hard dance.
First up, we’re hit by the infectious and in yer face ‘Wobble’ that lays down a fierce percussive groove and seesaw synth line that’s broken up by plenty of neat fills and drops in the arrangement.

Too Much Love
Daniel Steinberg [Style Rockets]
30 October, 2007 | 1.16PM- Section: Music Reviews
Style Rockets put out some cool gnarly techno a few years back, with a sound that sat between the raucous playfulness of Alter Ego and the big-rig thump of straight European techno.
But it seems they’ve developed more minimal tendencies of late, with this unpretentious groover from newcomer Steinberg offering a considerably less aggressive dose of dancefloor fun.
