Groovy jazz and sunshine house gossip

Lookout for the return of Herb Alpert’s ‘80s jazz-funk standard ‘Rotation’, which has been newly remixed for the new generation of club kids. It comes backed with ‘Aranjuez (Mon Amour)’.

From grim oop north to battling down south

Grim. Grim. Grim. It’s all so Grim. The words resonate inside my head as we drive in excess of 110 miles per hour down the M1 motorway home.

Afro beat, soul and dub reggae

Rave road trip to Sheffield

A message pops up from Talulla on AOL Instant Messenger. ‘ROAD TRIP’. I hate spreading out a two-minute conversation into 12 pages of type so I call her. “Road trip where?” I ask.
“Sheffield. James Zabiela and Nic Fanciulli are playing at Urban Gorilla at the uni and I want to go and see them. I’ll drive. Invite Dwayne,” she says.

Some soulful news

On the soulful side of things, a sexy new 12-inch from Joss Stone has been making the rounds, featuring a Yam Who? rework of the hit song ‘Tell Me ‘Bout It’.

Being healthy

After the chilled out weekend, Industry Boy is more tired than ever and decides not to go out drinking or clubbing for at least four days. It’s weird how you can go out on a bender for weeks on end no worries, but as soon as you stop for a second to catch your breath a wave of tiredness comes crashing over you.

Carl Kennedy ‘Ride The Storm’

One of my favourite ‘song-based’ records of recent weeks comes from Carl Kennedy – a New Yorker who’s made Sydney his second home. The simplicity of ‘Ride The Storm’, with ‘80s cuddy toy collector Andrew Roachford, has not gone unnoticed; with a line of record companies making serious enquires about a licence.

Dirty South & Paul Harris ‘Better Day’

Anyone with a modicum of interest in dance music couldn’t have helped notice the rise of Australian dance artists, who are finally gaining wider acceptance in the northern hemisphere. The ease with which
tracks can now be circulated at the click of a mouse has obviously has helped.

Going nuclear

The last few weeks have been pretty crazy so I decide to go ‘nuclear’ this weekend. That means I imagine there’s a nuclear war, and lock myself away in my flat and have no contact with the outside world. No phones. No email. No TV. I’m allowed to play computer games and produce tracks in Ableton though, otherwise what the hell would I do?

The walk of shame

Having hastily left the bar last night, I forgot to sign off my tab and collect my credit card. So this afternoon I had to travel back to Soho to sign off my whopping bill that included a bottle of Moët.

Moët is a stripper’s best friend

Industry Boy gives one last thrust into a stripper named Jessica, and then collapses onto the toilet cubicle floor. Hang on, rewind a sec. How the hell did I end up in the girl’s toilet, screwing this gorgeous dancer?

Music conferences - Talulla’s dream pickup joint

“Please can I come, please, please,” begs Talulla. I accidentally let slip that I was going to a digital music conference and networking event in King Cross today. Industry Boy could almost feel her orifice juices dripping down the phoneline, covering my ear in a thin layer of translucent mucus. “But there won’t be any DJs there,” I plead. As much as I love Talulla’s company, I didn’t want her sucking off any of my clients.

Hawtin & Fabric versus Väth & The End

Ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to London’s clash of the techno warriors. In the blue corner, representing Germany, Cocoon, and playing at The End is Sven Väth. And in the red corner, representing Minus, Canada and trendy haircuts is the one and only Richie Hawtin playing at Fabric. It’s quite ironic that two of the biggest names in techno are playing on the same night at rival clubs in the same city. Especially considering they’re good mates.

Meeting Sasha’s dad

If this guy standing before me hadn’t shot his load three decades ago, dance music would be a very different place. For one of his single spermatozoids created one of the greatest DJs the world has ever seen.

Sunday Roast

I wanted a spit roast today, but all I got was a Sunday roast. Still you can’t beat a hearty plate of meat, three veg, and gravy, especially when you haven’t eaten properly for days. The problem with going clubbing a few nights in a row is that you exist in a totally different time zone to the rest of the city.
