Heidi video interview

Courtesy of Xlr8r.com there’s a video interview with Heidi/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif from Get Physical Music/images/site/misc/wiki_box_l.gif after the jump.

Heidi has just finished being on tour with M.A.N.D.Y./images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif and in the interview she talks about the tour, her first steps into electronic music and her feelings about Richie Hawtin’s Minus/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif/images/site/misc/wiki_box_l.gif.

Beatportal’s Industry Boy was also on tour with the Get Physical crew and did a live blog from their tour bus for 10 days: you can check out all his Get Physical Tour blog posts here.

Get Physical tour: Personal notes

The Get Physical bus tour was the funniest albeit most draining week of my life.

It might have been the eight clubs in eight days (I only managed seven in the end), the six-, eight- or 12-hour drives, the alcohol, the lack of sleep, or the fact that I was made tour manager on the very first night, but I was destroyed by the end.

Get Physical tour: M.A.N.D.Y.’s top tracks

During the Get Physical tour M.A.N.D.Y. played some ridiculously cool music, so one night I held Patrick from M.A.N.D.Y.’s head in a toilet bowl and pulled Philipp’s toe nails out until the Germans caved in and agreed to share some previews just for Beatportal’s users.

Here’s M.A.N.D.Y.’s top three tracks from the tour, including descriptions and audio clips.

Get Physical tour: Audiofly’s Top 3 tracks

Britain’s Audiofly are hot property in techno currently, having shaken up dancefloors around the world with their mix of groovy tech house and minimal.

They joined M.A.N.D.Y. and Heidi on their tour bus as it traveled across North America, and here’s Audiofly’s top three tracks from the Get Physical tour.

Heidi talks about music and the pain of touring

When Heidi woke up on the pavement in Brooklyn with concerned hotel staff shaking her back into consciousness, she realized that the Get Physical tour, for her at least, was over.

Earlier in the week, Heidi had pre-empted that the 14-hour drive from New York to Chicago straight after the gig on Friday night would be impossible to handle, so Heidi and I booked flights to Chicago in order to miss the last drive.

Get Physical crew in good spirits in Montreal

We recorded this video last night in the hotel room in Montreal after the gig, whilst waiting for the bus driver to show up to drive us to NYC.

As you can see, everybody is in good spirits, but the conversation is a bit random.

Philipp and Heidi from M.A.N.D.Y. diary

Heidi and Philipp from M.A.N.D.Y. recorded this video diary update in Montreal outside Tribe Hyperclub, the poshest club we’ve been to on tour.

They were selling 12L bottles of Moët & Chandon for $4500.

“We’ve done so much underground parties in shitty techno warehouses so it’s quite nice to arrive to a very clean and posh club,” explained Philipp.

Photos of the Get Physical tour in Denver

Our friends Resident Advisor had a photographer at Beta in Denver to track the festivities while Get Physical was at the helm of the decks.

Of course, with the Beatport and Beatportal HQ right here in Denver, we’re all delighted to see everything documented so well.

The intenseness of touring, Get Physical style

Last night in Toronto it kicked off on the Get Physical tour bus at around 4am.

Patrick from M.A.N.D.Y. wanted to stay in Toronto for an afterparty, but the bus driver had been told it would be a 4am bus call so he wanted to leave.

Everybody threw in their two cents with the crew falling on both sides, and Anthony from Audiofly came bounding up to Industry Boy (I was a little drunk) and said: “If anyone can rescue this situation it’s you, the tour manager.”

I was about to tell him to bugger off, but realised he was probably right so I negotiated with both camps, apologised to the driver and finally we all calmed down.

Eventually the bus started on its way down the dark, forest-lined roads of Canada towards Montreal.

If the Get Physical tour bus had been a reality TV show, the in-house psychologist would have had a field day.

The Get Physical arm roll

One thing I’ve noticed about both of the M.A.N.D.Y. boys - they always roll up one sleeve on their tshirt when they DJ.

“Tshirts look better like this,” explained Patrick one night, and since then we’ve all been doing the one arm tshirt roll as demonstrated in this pic.

For some reason, it just does look cooler. Weird.

Border police welcome Get Physical

“Sir, would you mind stepping inside here, please?” asked a uniformed and holstered police officer at the Canadian and United States border just now.

The room was a concrete box about 7ft by 10ft, with a wooden desk in the middle, bright fluorescent lights and a wooden bench at one end.

Audiofly, M.A.N.D.Y. and Heidi all squeezed onto the bench and the sight of five disheveled DJs in their pajamas having been dragged out of their bunk beds would have been hilarious, were it not for the four police officers standing in front of them with their hands on their hips.

Jesus comes to Get Physical in Philadelphia

It appears Jesus popped down from heaven to check out the Get Physical party in Philadelphia.

Luca from Audiofly interviewed Jesus and found out he’s a big fan of M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade.

If you like Get Physical, sit down

There’s only one club in the world where clubbers sit down on the dancefloor to pay homage to DJs.

That club is DC10 in Ibiza, but last night in Woody’s in Philadelphia it happened thanks to the Get Physical crew.

Get Physical tour: Philipp video update

Philipp from M.A.N.D.Y. filmed this quick video update outside Woody’s in Philadelphia and discusses his preparedness for a possible strip search at the Canadian border.

Get Physical tour: Heidi’s bruises

Last night the DJ booth at Five in Washington DC was a cramped little spot, way up high above the dancefloor.

The only way to get to the DJ booth was up a tight metal spiral staircase out back, and for DJs carrying heavy record bags and CD wallets, it’s a bit like walking a gauntlet of death, as Heidi found out when the club closed.

As she was carrying her record bag down the stairs, her heel got caught in the metal grill and she fell ass over tit, smacking her knee into the staircase.
