Zabiela and Fanciulli discuss their special relationship
13 March, 2007 | 3.48AMBritish DJs James Zabiela
and Nic Fanciulli
are well on their way to becoming the next Sasha & Digweed after it was announced the duo have produced a mix CD together.
Called ‘One+One’ their double CD on Ministry of Sound Recordings (out 31st March) is the result of a unique friendship that begun when the two DJs played together whilst on tour in Asia in 2005.
“Even though Nic and I are relatively young DJs compared to most we’ve been touring heavily on our own for a number of years,” said James, suggesting that the life of a globetrotting DJ can sometimes be a bit lonely.
“So when we did a quick tour of Australia and Asia last year we decided that it’s much more fun to go with someone else!”
The collaboration brings together, for the first time, two of Britain’s most exciting young talents, and the buzz building behind the release of their album is growing.
And with a world tour due to kick start at Miami’s Winter Music Conference with the pair playing back to back at every gig, already some are comparing James and Nic’s partnership to that of legendary DJ duo Sasha & Digweed.
“We both started off with the same musical background and as time went on we developed our own styles,” commented Nic Fanciulli
.
“When we put them together it works well and we seem to compliment each other musically.”
Beatportal had a sneaky peak of James and Nic’s new CD and we were so excited, a little bit of wee came out.
Featuring Zabiela’s deck trickery with Fanciulli’s chunky acid house, it was ever bit as wicked as we had hoped.
“I always wanted more hands in the DJ booth and now I have them,” said James, who’s looking forward to the tour.
“We’ll be using the Q2 Dual DJ which will allow us to independently cue things as well as play with FX units, laptops, and CDJs.”
If there’s one show you go to all year, make sure it’s James Zabiela
and Nic Fanciulli’s One+One.
