Z-Trip and Shepard Fairey support Obama

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama has been the talk of the town these days, particularly making waves with youth culture as that affinity resounds through the music world.

Lauded as a politician who can relate to the young folk, there’s been several artists and musicians jumping on the free speech wagon to politicize their work and make their voices heard.

To name a few, rapper Ludacris recently got an intense finger wagging from Barack’s representatives for “outrageously offensive” lyrics that blast Hillary Clinton and McCain; and snippets of Obama’s speeches have been sampled and mixed into several various tracks, a la Martin Luther King, Jr. style.

Most recently, underground hip-hop artist Z-Trip has teamed up with skater-gone-graphic designer Shepard Fairey to throw a fundraiser party for the presumptive presidential nominee.

On Friday, August 1st, the Echoplex in L.A.’s Echo Park will be host to a party in the name of hope, change and Barack Obama.

Entertainment for the event will include Z-Trip, Fairey (DJ Diabetic), DJ Troublemaker, Adam 12, and special guests.

For your $20 entry, the first 100 people there will receive a signed copy of Fairey’s Obama “Hope” campaign poster, and with a cult following that snapped up his first release of limited edition prints within minutes, you can imagine this is event will resemble mob action.
