is one of techno’s finest workhorse producers and undersung heroes.
The English producer’s been making releasing techno since 1992 after being drawn into the scene after discovering acid house on a trip to Tenerife in the late 1980s.
This EP marks another step in a year of big records and remixes which peaked with his ‘Ping Pong’ track — which was one of the anthems of Miami WMC for the underground DJs at least — and one of the highlights of Richie Hawtin’s set at the Beatport pool party.
His sound rehashes elements of techno’s past for the present — like the big rave stabs on ‘Ping Pong’ or the rave stab interlude in ‘You & Me’ — and his name on a record is usually a sign of something special to come.
‘You & Me’ comprises three tracks.
The title track, ‘You & Me’ is all about a rude bassline and blippy synths that give way to a huge moment of rave stabbiness before dissolving back into bassline funk.
‘Sierra’ is built around classic techno stabs and a skippy hi hat pattern and drum fills reminiscent of G-Man’s 1993 techno classic ‘Quo Vadis’.
THe Sierra Sam remix of ‘You & Me’ makes up the package, but its Broom’s own tracks which make this release so essential.
