Xmas present tip: DJ The Book

Xmas present tip: DJ The Book

If you’re stuck for Xmas present ideas, photographer Krijn van Noordwijk’s stunning portraiture of DJs is great a coffee-table accessory for friends who like club music and DJ culture.

Contained within the 12” hard cover of ‘DJ The Book’ are 140 photos of some of the world’s most famous DJs, as well as shots of some not so famous jocks.

“I like DJs because, as I said in my foreword text, I think they are today’s musical adventurers,” Krijn van Noordwijk told Beatportal.

“They are nomadic tribesmen, speaking the international language of music, and I wanted to show these feeders of subculture a bit closer than how we normally see them. Or rather see them not.

“And also, the book aims to give a ‘snapshot’ of the musical period we are in.”

Stars like Richie Hawtin, Steve Bug, Carl Cox, Dave Clarke and Mike Banks were captured beautifully by Krijn at his studio in Amsterdam.

He believes that his DJ work is a result of the period that we live in, an era that might later become known as the age of the DJ.

“Every era has had its own kind of music and culture, and with it their own heroes,” said Krijn. “In the era we live in now, the DJ is the main character.

“The DJ is the person that shapes the time we live in, musically speaking. DJs are today’s rock ‘n’ roll stars, and I think we are now in a period that will be known later as the age of the DJ.”

You can order DJ The Book at www.djthebook.com/ for 49.50 EUR.
