World Cup Beatdown: Brothers’ Vibe (USA)
World Cup Beatdown: Brothers’ Vibe (USA)
19 June, 2010 | 9.09AMTo celebrate this year’s World Cup, we’ve found the most football-obsessed DJs in electronic music and asked them to “represent” their home countries and share their predictions for this year’s championship.
To be honest, we thought it might be tough to find a football (ahem, soccer) fan from the United States, but then we learned that Brothers’ Vibe—that is, the New York/New Jersey deep house don Tony Rodriguez—is as progressive in his sporting tastes as he is in his music…

Personal bias, aside who do you think will really emerge as champions this year?
Man, I’d say Brazil, as they pretty much house this sport. They’re just some badasses!!
And how well do you think your national team will perform and what players should we be watching out for?
Honestly, USA hasn’t done much at all in this sport. Would love to see USA get to it this year though! The word is Buddle and Gomez may be the ones to make it all happen!
What has been your favorite World Cup so far?
I would say 1998, when France creamed Brazil! Yikes!
What would be your ideal track for your team’s World Cup Song this year?
Well, we can have the USA team come on the field to Cajmere’s ‘Percolator’!
What songs would you pick for when your country wins and what song for when you lose?
If the USA wins, ‘Whoomp! There It Is’ will do fine!
If they lose, well, we can rock the old Chi-town classic, ‘It’s Ok, It’s Ok’ by The Force on Jes Say Records. (I know it sounds wack – all in good fun…)
And finally where will you be watching the tournament this year?
Well, I’ll be all over Europe—UK, Germany, Italy and France! I’ll be catchin’ it bit by bit in my travels…
