World Cup Beatdown: Brendon Moeller (South Africa)
14 June, 2010 | 1.17AMTo celebrate this year’s World Cup, we’ve found the most football-obsessed DJs in electronic music and asked them to “represent” their home countries and share their predictions for this year’s championship.
Holding down the home turf, it’s South Africa’s Brendon Moeller
(aka Beat Pharmacy and Echologist), the dub techno maestro known for his releases on Echocord, Third Ear Recordings, Connaisseur Recordings
, and his new label, Steadfast Records.

Personal bias aside, who do you think will really emerge as champions this year?
Well, I probably go with the general consensus at the moment that Brazil will emerge as the champions.
How well do you think your national team will perform, and what players should we be watching out for?
Obviously I’m hoping for the best, but I don’t expect them to fair too well. Since the final 23 haven’t been chosen yet I can’t say 100% who to watch out for yet, but Benny McCarthy and Siyabonga Nomvethe could do some damage.
What has been your favourite World Cup so far?
2006 was pretty darn exciting.
What would be your ideal track for your team’s World Cup Song this year?
‘Fisherman by’ the Congos :)
What songs would you pick for when your country wins and what song for when you lose?
Win: George Morel, ‘Let’s Groove’
Lose: TRG, ‘Broken Heart (Martyn’s DCM Mix)’
Finally, where will you be watching the tournament this year?
At my temporary residence in Bucharest.
