World Cup Beatdown: Balto (Honduras)
World Cup Beatdown: Balto (Honduras)
15 June, 2010 | 1.19AMTo celebrate this year’s World Cup, we’ve found the most football-obsessed DJs in electronic music and asked them to “represent” their home countries and share their predictions for this year’s championship.
Honduras may not be a hotbed of house music, but under the ambassadorship of Balto, a Tegucigalpa DJ who discovered club music on his European travels, it’s not as far off the beaten track as you may think: Balto’s Modular agency has booked the likes of Tim Xavier
, Massi DL
, Paco Osuna
, Xpansul
, Alex Under
, Joseph Capriati
, and more.

Personal bias aside, who do you think will really emerge as champions this year?
I think Spain can be the next champion, as they have a very strong team, but I would like to see the cup in America with Brazil.
And how well do you think your national team will perform and what players should we be watching out for?
Hopefully the Honduran team will get to the second stage, which alone would be a very good accomplishment considering it would be the first time they get so far.
Some of the most important players in our national team are Wilson Palacios, who currently plays at the Premier English League for the Tottenham Spur; Julio Cesar “Rambo” de Leon, who plays in the Italian League for the Torino; and also David Suazo, who also plays in the Italian league for the Genova. As you can see we have world-class players in our national team.
What has been your favourite World Cup so far?
The 1982 World Cup held in Spain was my favourite, as it was the first time Honduras played. I was only nine years old but I still remember jumping and running when our team scored goals!!
What would be your ideal track for your team’s World Cup Song this year?
Since my preference is electronic music I will stay in this area—also, I don’t judge music using nationalities so I will choose internationally:
Alex Under
, ‘Azul Terio Carnal’
I think it’s a very joyful track, full of energy. And since the track name is ‘Azul’ (blue), which is our team colour (and the colour of our national flag), it fits.
What songs would you pick for when your country wins and what song for when you lose?
When our team wins, I would choose Alex Under’s ‘Charger’. It’s a very powerful track… gets you moving, ideal for celebrating!
When our team loses, I would choose ‘Back Home’ by Anthony Rother. I think it’s a very melancholic but positive track.
And finally where will you be watching the tournament this year?
I will be watching the games in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
