World Cup Beatdown: Alex AQ (Paraguay)

World Cup Beatdown: Alex AQ (Paraguay)

To celebrate this year’s World Cup, we’ve found the most football-obsessed DJs in electronic music and asked them to “represent” their home countries and share their predictions for this year’s championship.

Alex AQ was born in Cuba, but today he’s a naturalized citizen of Paraguay. Once of the prime movers in Asunción’s house and techno scene, he regularly shares the stage with visiting guests like John Digweed, Christian Smith, and Gel Abril.

Personal bias aside, who do you think will really emerge as champions this year?

Brasil.

How well do you think your national team will perform and what players should we be watching out for?

Parguay should get to the Final Quarters at least. Players to watch out for are Roque Santa Cruz, Nelson Haedo Valdez, Lucas Barrios. and Tacuara Cardozo.

What has been your favourite World Cup so far?

France 1998.

What would be your ideal track for your team’s World Cup Song this year?

Umek’s ‘2nd To None (Mr. Henry Von Remix)’

What songs would you pick for when your country wins and what song for when you lose?

When we win, I’d play ‘I Should Have Known These Before’ by Vincent Thomas, because all my crowd love it every time I play it.

When we lose, I’d play a nice tech track like ‘Motion (Fergie Remix)’ by Christian Smith, to not get too blue and feel the stronger for the next match.

And finally where will you be watching the tournament this year?

I’ll be in Paraguay watching all the games with a lot of friends, having a barbecue, which is typical whenever our team plays.
