Matrix & Futurebound [Viper]
9 May, 2008 | 3.18PM- Section: Music Reviews Topics: Beatport Blog
Matrix and Futurebound, hot off the back of their ‘Universal Truth’ LP, are keeping the pressure on the drum & bass scene with a slew of singles.
‘Womb’, their most recent, is probably a reference to the biggest, baddest, most cutting-edge club in Tokyo, Japan.
The elements in this record are predictably epic, reflecting the cavernous, carefree vibes from the Land of the Rising Sun’s metaphorical temple of rave.
Beatport just loves the subliminal string layers and the complex depth they add to ‘Womb’.
For this reason ‘Womb’ survives heavy repeated play.
The subtle grooves and sub-rhythms just make you want to move.
The virtual “B-side” (if there is such a thing anymore) on this “plate” is a Nu TONE and Logistics remix of Matrix and Futurebound’s ‘Family’.
For this beautiful liquid composition, its remixers break out a classic funk break that only balding E-heads seem to remember the name of.
The vocal is a bit “bedroom” in all honesty, but that’s what drum & bass is all about, right?
The bassline is as solid as the contents of your lower intestine after going on an Atkins diet and ingesting only beef.
And if that doesn’t make the track worth listening to, we don’t know what does.
