Wolfgang Voigt plays the piano

Kompakt’s head honcho Wolfgang Voigt is on a roll at the moment.
After he re-released his four genre-defining GAS albums and a luxurious GAS photo-book a few months ago, and after reuniting with Jörg Burger (aka The Modernist) as Burger & Ink - oops, Burger & Voigt - he has revived his old label Profan which had been defunct for eight years.
And guess what, he is playing the piano.
‘Freiland Klaviermusik’, as the EP is aptly titled, is Voigt’s turn to classical music, which seems to be en vogue with electronic music producers these days.
Apparently his main inspiration for this EP was the Mexican composer Conlon Nancarrow, who wrote pieces for player pianos in the 1930s and according to Wikipedia “was one of the first composers to use musical instruments as mechanical machines, making them play far beyond human performance ability.”
Wolfgang Voigt always had a thing for concept-albums and the like, so this is his latest offering.
Five tracks full of modern classical piano excursions, sometimes hectic and woozy, sometimes soothing and calm.
It never gets boring with the Kompakt main man.
