WMC Track: Oscar G. ‘Chunky Buddha’
12 March, 2009 | 7.25AMJust in time for WMC, Miami native Oscar G.
adds this deep and tribal monster to the arsenal of the Innervisions
‘Secret Weapons’ series.
Coming from one half of the production outfit and label Murk
who are said to have helped define the house sound of the the ‘90s, particularly in Miami, we can expect that this one will drop once again like an A-bomb on Miami’s dancefloors if this veteran’s instincts are in place.
Do away with all wholesome thoughts of sun and surf here, as this one feels more like the beginnings of a long night, with grit, grime and danger to boot.
You can almost feel the swelter of Miami heat as sweaty tribal drums kick a path through shuffling congas, and staccato synths stab away at your brain like some alien Morse code, urgently working to convey some otherworldly message.
Then enters a dangerous Moog-like affair, like a glowing spaceship come to whisk you off to the depths of the darkest dancefloor.
This one is menacing and stripped down electro tribal at its finest, and is sure to drop kick any dancefloor deep into inner or outer space.
