WMC Track: Kapuchon & Benny Rodrigues ‘Reel’
WMC Track: Kapuchon & Benny Rodrigues ‘Reel’
17 March, 2009 | 5.43AMThere is a big need for lazy house music grooves during Miami’s WMC, an imperative intrinsically linked to the stretched energy levels of attendees and the large amount of afternoon/sunrise sets. A standard night out’s enthusiasm (which rises and then falls within a few hours) in Miami is replaced by days of general haziness that if anything, become a purer canvas for DJs to play with.
Kapuchon & Benny Rodrigues’ excellent new house cut ‘Reel’ will work wonders for any DJs who find themselves playing to a crowd that’s struggling to keep moving (awake), because in those instances, you just need to keep it afloat.
Hear a preview after the jump!
‘Reel’ chugs along tepidly at first, with a double noted bassline wobble that’s backed up by a hypnotic bleep-ridden lead. In the background a crowd quietly chats, adding more atmosphere and weirdness to the mix (some people might think they’re hearing things).
As the track progresses, a tribal Latino-sounding male vocal chant comes in, which has just the right amount of energy to keep feet jiggling and raise a few flaccid arms (enough to keep the reels moving, so to speak).
‘Reel’ is a subtle wonder, an understated, sophisticated house track that is far from the crowd-pleasing obvious anthems one normally associates with WMC. That makes it a useful bridge for the gaps in between the music and the memories.
