Berlin-based house and techno producer Shonky plans to promote his new album ‘Time Zero’ at this year’s Miami Winter Music Conference.
Ahead of the WMC marathon, we grabbed him to find out more about his Miami plans. Just two weeks to go till the party starts!
What are you planning for WMC this year?
I’m planning to go for a few days because we have a Freak n’Chic showcase party on the rooftop of the Townhouse with my mates Dan Ghencia, Jamie Jones and Marc Antona.
It will be the occasion to showcase our sound and meet again with all the great people I met when I was doing my US tour in November and December 2007. I can’t wait, really!
So you think the Winter Music Conference is still important, then?
Absolutely, because just once a year people who are into the same kind of music go there.
It’s the time to meet people and to see artists that you like.
It’s also the place to promote your own projects - for example, I’m going to be promoting my new album ‘Time Zero’ this year.
But more than anything, it’s a unique occasion to penetrate the US market, which is slowly getting into our sound.
What records will be big for you at WMC?
Hard to know but i will be glad to see if one of the tracks of my new album ‘Time Zero’ is played everywhere during the conference.
What is the strangest WMC experience you have had?
I once spent 24 hours in US customs because of a visa problem.
Two years ago I ended up at a drum & bass afterparty in a house because my friend gave me the wrong directions.
I just rang at the door thinking I would meet my friends, the guy who answered the door thought I was invited, so I ended up shaking my booty all day next to the swimming pool with total strangers. I had fun really.
