WMC 2008: The Miami Insider 002

Sunny and hot all week, bitch.

That’s the forecast I received for the Winter Music Conference when I called a friend who works at The National Hurricane Center in Miami (no hurricanes coming either).

Bring lots of sunscreen my sunlight challenged friends, or you’ll be sorry.

On Tuesday March 25th, the first day of conference, you can find plenty of parties going down at one of SoBe’s local clubs, bars, or lounges.  You might be in one of our stylish fashion boutiques.  You probably won’t be in the studio though, unless you’re going to Area 57 studios downtown (the design district), just over the bridge from Miami beach (only a small cab fare).

The design district of Miami is a truly wondrous achievement, carved right out of the Miami ghetto.  The ghetto has been slowly bushed back over the past couple of years.  The emergence of several lounges and clubs like SoHo or Grass, plus the construction of many soon to be skyscrapers and like buildings have facilitated the growth.  The many art dealers, architects, interior designers, and the like, have given the once abandoned district “the spark of life.”

Look for great locals like DJ Eyekon, plus other regulars on such internet radio stations like GrooveWaves and BPM.FM.

Here’s how to party in a kick ass studio with the locals:

1. Hail a cab (for you Brit brothers)
2. Tell the friendly Haitian driving the cab to take you to Area 57 studios at 5701 NE 2ND AVE, in the Miami Design District.
3. Watch the sights and scenery as you probably won’t be leaving the beac h again until you take a flight back home.
4. Arrive at your destination, and proceed inside the studio.
5. Get wasted and dance you ass off.
6. Try and meet people if you haven’t made a total ass of yourself in the4 latter instruction.
7. Return to hotel and either sleep or do enough drugs so you don’t need to sleep (I recommend sleep though, you still have A LOT of conference to attend, kiddies).

Now, wait for tomorrow where I’ll give you TWO bad-ass local parties to crash. Until then my droogies.
