WMC 2008: The Miami Insider 001
17 March, 2008 | 10.10AM- Section: Music News Topics: Miami WMC 2008
Winter Music Conference.
No doubt about about it, whether you are coming for the seminars or the parties, if you come to Miami this year, you’re going to be joined by a sh!tload of people.
I am a Miami native, and have seen the WMC expand over the past 10 years that I’ve been participating in it.
It actually started out not long after I first got to mess around with some turnatables.
It was 1998, and I had just walked into this kick ass new rave on Miami Beach called Ultra Music Festival.
Ever since that one sublime day, I knew that there was something going on in this world, something I had just scratched the surface of, and I needed to know what it was all about.
Flash-forward to the present day.
I have been to every UMF since then, the Ultra Carry-On parties, the official pre-parties, and even the failed “Ultra Beach” party that ended up in a convention center after some fiasco that only Miami Beach officials can conjure.
In between those two moments in time, I picked up DJing, threw a bunch of successful parties on SoBe, and traveled to exotic lands whose names I don’t try to pronounce, but seemed to rhyme with Kuala-Lumpur or the likes of it.
“All that for some damn music?”
Fuck yeah. And if you’re reading this, chances are, you know what I’m talking about.
In fact, if you’re reading this, you’re probably coming to Miami for the WMC (if you’re not, sorry, but you should have quit smoking this year… you could have saved plenty of money to pay for flight, hotel, tickets, drug money, etc. but what the hell do I know? I’m addicted to nicotine)
I should probably let you know that I am not spinning at any parties during the WMC this year, solely because I am determined to report all good findings right to Beatportal.com, and you, the reader.
I want to experience the WMC unbiased this year, totally free to explore what goes down all over Miami during this amazing and innovative conference.
Enough rambling.
The point is, you need to choose where your heart lies in this music… in this LIFESTYLE.
It just so happens that I love “The Underground.”
In an effort to spread a little news to the people who are interested in the Miami Underground, I will begin this little series “The Miami Insider” with the first party you should check out: “AudioFiles” presented by DJ Kaenow and his hit Podcast “The Vanishing Point,” on Monday, March 24th at ORA (717 Washington Ave).
Kaenow, a Miami local, started out with college and pirate radio and then took one of the first live club broadcasts of electronic music in Miami to the radio waves.
He now has multiple broadcasts on internet and satellite radio, and The vanishing Point is sponsored by iTUNES/Apple.
Look out for a HUGE underground line-up at this party.
If you do happen to land in Miami on March 24th, swing by ORA, in the heart of SoBe and check it out.
This series will be continued with another great local’s party for the WMC 2008 tommorow, so don’t sweat it.
By the end of this series, you will be educated in the Miami underground enough to find out where we’re at.
Getting in isn’t the problem you see.
But getting back out…
