WMC 2008: Danny Howells interview

British house DJ Danny Howells will play an all night set during this year’s Winter Music Conference (WMC), bringing his legendary Dig Deeper sound to Set on Wednesday 26th March.

Beatportal grabbed five minutes with Danny on the phone to find out more about his Miami plans.

What’s all this we here about a mammoth all-night set you’ve got planned for WMC in Miami?

Yeah, I’ll be playing all night with a Dig Deeper set!

Hopefully that means I’ll get to play everything from downtempo and deep house, all the way through to the techier end of things, with some surprises and disco along the way.

It’s my first gig in Miami since last year’s conference, and the start of a more regular presence in Miami full stop.

I used to have a great time at Space, but the music policy has changed there so much that I haven’t been there at all recently.

Therefore I’ve been looking for someone new who understands the music I play and the best way to present it, and that’s what I believe we have found [with Set].

Why is Miami’s WMC so important to you?

I always get excited about the conference and my party - this year more than ever.

Miami is still important because it just is! For many people it remains the most important and fun time in the DJ year.

The purpose of WMC has changed somewhat with the advent of digital distribution, but WMC remains as important to dance music as the Grammys or the Brit Awards are to pop.
