It’s encouraging to see that the Areal squad are still fighting the good fight, disengaging from the fickle winds of fashion and staying true to their ballsy, playful ideals.

This effort from newcomer to the tightly-knit fold, Henneberg, bears all the hallmarks of a typical Areal Records release, but if you’re a fan of the label’s raucous unpretentiousness, that’s surely no bad thing.

‘Milk Effect’ is the more playful of the two tracks here, a flagrant amalgam of James Holden, T.Raumschmiere and Tiefschwarz in some unholy studio tussle.

Its loose, driving drum groove, horny leads and bleepy urgency are about as far removed from the current deep house trend as you can imagine, and are arguably all the better for it.

If that sounds all a bit trashy, the title track offers much more sinister thrills, with ominous synths scraping over taut, bleak drums.

While the abrasively trancey feel might not suit those with more sensitive tastes, anyone with a penchant for Areal’s distinctive brand of Teutonic menace will lap it up.
