Winning remix hits Beatport Top 5

Winning remix hits Beatport Top 5

Last summer Beatportal hosted a remix competition, challenging aspiring producers to rework the classic house anthem, ‘Music is the Answer’ by Danny Tenaglia and Celeda.

After sorting through a huge pool nearly 600 entries from every genre of electronic music, three outstanding remixes were found, and eventually signed to TWISTED [l].

Now several months later, the first place winning remix by Gabriel Vezzola [a] has made it into the Top 10 Beatport chart (it rose to No.4 at one point), proof that the remix contest managed to unearth some real talent.

Gabriel Vezzola won Beatportal’s remix contest

Gabriel Vezzola’s remix is doing serious damage in DJs’ sets currently, so we caught up with Mr. Vezzola to see how life has changed since winning the remix contest.

Vezzola, a Netherlands native, figured that he would find support from his local Dutch audience, but to have his remix acknowledged worldwide is an accomplishment that he never dreamed of.

“To see my remix in the Beatport Top 5 was incredible,” says Gabriel. “When my friend told me that it had climbed all the way to No.4, I was so happy!

“I’ve received some really positive feedback from other producers and DJs, and I see that people react really positively to the track when I play it in my sets, and that’s just for my local, Dutch audience.

“Because Beatport is a worldwide platform, it’s amazing to see that my remix got support from around the globe.”

Vezzola says that his DJ gigs are also increasing in number, and that he’s been picked up by an agency to discuss further bookings.

“What’s left for me to do is to just keep working my ass off, and I hope 2009 will bring lots of cool places to play,” says the DJ and producer.

In terms of production, his first solo project is currently being remixed by close friends.

Winning the contest has been such great exposure—I have so much faith in the future now

“I’m working on getting a remix done by someone I really respect as a producer, but that’s still in the negotiating phase so it will be a surprise. I think it’s going to be a really good package, it should be available very soon on Beatport through my record company Selekted Music [l] in the Netherlands.”

On winning the remix competition, Vezzola says “I have so much faith in the future now. I keep working faster than ever because winning the remix competition gave me a pat on the back that says I’m not doing too bad music-wise, and that encouragement is what drives me forward.

“I’ve received some interesting offers from publishers and from various record companies for remixes too, so who knows what’s in store for me?!”

There’s bound to be aspiring producers out there who will feel inspired by the success of Gabriel Vezzola, and we are happy to see him well on his way to fully realizing his potential as a DJ and producer.
