Williams’ Blood

Williams’ Blood (Aeroplane Remix)

Grace Jones [Wall of Sound]

Amazing Grace. How sweet the sound. Indeed.

Yes, the inimitable Grace Jones [a] is back. Her first studio album in almost two decades dropped last month on Wall of Sound and a bumper world tour is set to ensue in the New Year.

All quite remarkable, really, for a woman of 60. But rather than a vain attempt to conceal her age – as we have come to expect from similar Studio 54 era ‘comebacks’ – Jones gracefully delivers an intimate and honest account of her family history with a telling voice that betrays all the wise yet weary undertones of a woman who’s been through it all…

These melodic memoirs are given a Balearic twist by the evermore ubiquitous Belgian duo, Aeroplane [a], whose popular nu-disco stylings have made them hot property on the remix market.  They don’t disappoint here: the melancholy remains, yet is buoyed along by more of a focus on the gospel vocals and, of course, a couple of blissed-out piano breakdowns just for fun.

Unlucky Americans will be disappointed to learn that this release is currently unavailable State-side, and well they might be, as Williams’ Blood is definitive testament to Grace Jones’ evergreen soul.
