Why Don’t You EP
Plastic Operator [Fine Day Records]...
1 November, 2007 | 10.20AM- Section: Music Reviews
This Antwerp/Montreal connection blossomed over an audio production course at Westminster University like some kind of geek’s wet dream — so you would expect technical frills.
Sophisticated yet sentimental, the original sounds undeniably French, experimenting with the same breed of synthesized human emotion as Telepopmusik.
It’s electronic pop; quite hollow but well crafted, a sweet digitised ballad that requires minimum emotional engagement.
The Jesse Rose and Oliver mix teeters on the boundaries of speed garage, with a treatment that has become synonymous with a Monsieur Rose remix — right down to the schizophrenic stop/start trademark that flickers between the stripped-down orchestral bit into jacking tech house.
Flag this as the dance floor arsenal of the bunch.
Dario Albiez and Mark Pearse’s take is a brash, bold electro house rework that is interesting but is too disjointed to make a definite impact.
With past releases already picked up by Sunday Best and now working with Booka Shade, it seems like Plastic Operator have a bad ass post study plan mapped out.
Struggling music graduates take note; make friends with Booka Shade and start a fucking band.
