‘Why Did Ya’ lives on
4 March, 2008 | 3.18PM- Section: Music News Topics: House Nation
Those of a certain age will remember with much affection Stretch’s ‘Why Did You Do It’ — an early forerunner to the Balearic sound from 1984.
Fast forward to present day, and those cheeky BeatThiefs have remade it, adding a contemporary twist to a song just oozing in familiarity and charm.
Add to the equation the vocal prowess Shena — the voice behind hits with Jr. Jack (‘Dare Me’), Michael Gray (‘The Weekend’) and De Souza (‘Guilty’) — and a great mix package that already has a plethora of A-list DJs salivating!
The BeatThiefs ft. Shena with ‘Why Did Ya’ is released via Sutil Vox, a label that was recently behind acclaimed singles for Paul Jackson, Barbara Tucker and David Tort, to name three.
As to the mixes, the package includes a stellar collection of restylings from Phunk Investigation, David Tort & DJ Ruff, David Gausa, Anton Newmank & Alex Camel and Mario da Ragnio, along with the funky original version.
As to the props, well, every one from Roger Sanchez, Granite & Phunk and Arno Cost to the Freemasons, Flash Brothers and Robbie Rivera have featured it in recent sets.
