What’s this summer’s ‘Heater’?

Most years, a hit bubbles up from the underground and becomes huge, sometimes even entering the mainstream charts.

Of course, it was Samim’s ‘Heater’ in 2007, but as we head towards September, do we have a strong contender for 2008?

Beatportal has come up with a couple of suggestions after the jump.

If you’ve caught Luciano or Ricardo Villalobos at a major festival this summer, you’ve probably encountered ‘Trompete’ by Sis.

As its name suggests, the track is built around a striking trumpet ‘riff’, and causes inevitable mayhem whenever it’s dropped.

Although it’s a bit darker than ‘Heater’ – if indeed a minimal house record with trumpets in it can be considered dark at all – we can imagine a tarted-up version, possibly with a big vocal stapled on top, appearing on sports ads and the like in the not-too-distant future.

Signed by Ricardo Villalobos’s vinyl-only Sei Is Drum label, it’s currently unavailable to purchase digitally, although we’re interested to see how long that’s the case.

Here’s a clip of Luciano dropping it at Holland’s Welcome To The Future Festival, courtesy of blip.tv:

Our second tip is ‘Tabasco’ by Kohlbecker & Eilmes, two members of the crew behind Frankfurt’s 311 club.

Once again, it features a daft Mariachi-style trumpet line that will appeal and appall in equal measure.

Like ‘Trompete’, it’s been released as a limited run vinyl twelve by Dreielf with remixes by Andre Krom and Alexi Delano, but the original is available on Beatport on the compilation in the player.

However, the sample doesn’t contain the divisive trumpet action, so check this video from Youtube, which features famous Mexican mouse Speedy Gonzales.
