What’s hot in house?
12 May, 2010 | 8.41AMSpring is always a busy time for labels releasing and promoting new tunes in hopes of scoring an anthem in time for the Ibiza season. What’s Hot in House is our weekly update of what’s big in house music clubs and what’s coming up.
After making a huge splash at WMC, Creamfields and Coachella, Dirty South
launched his label Phazing with the titled release ‘Phazing’ featuring the vocals of Rudy.
‘Phazing’ is yet another essential new tune for Dirty South, who has scored several over the past few years. ‘Phazing’ is a house anthem gaining support from David Guetta, Pete Tong, Swedish House Mafia, and the like.
If there was a Record of the Conference at this year’s WMC, it must be Dennis Ferrer’s original vocal mix of ‘Hey Hey’. As heard in multiple venues and at the biggest events over the four days of WMC, it’s a simple song about a casual encounter between a girl and guy on the street.
Originally released on Ferrer’s Objektivity label, Simon Dunmore quickly scooped up the now anthem for his Defected label and has commissioned an all-star set of remixes by Crookers, Vandalism, Dim Chris, and Tom De Neef.
The new mixes will keep you on tune well through the summer and beyond.
Classic UK label Champion Records
is back with new mixes of the worldwide dance hit from 1996, Sandy B’s ‘World Go Round’. New mixes are from Soulshaker, Bassmonkeys, and Stereojackers. The new mixes have received heavy support from Freemasons and Bimbo Jones and have climbed into the Music Week Upfront Chart and DMC World Charts.
Strictly Rhythm
has just released its latest in the Strictly Mixed series. ‘Strictly Bob Sinclar’ features a hand picked selection of tracks from the Yellow Productions’ chief DJ. Pairing a legendary label with a producer and DJ of similar caliber has proven successful and has enabled Strictly to exploit their catalog with a flavorful twist. Two continuous mixes from Bob Sinclar enhance the package of remixes and productions from the Strictly catalog.
The Parisian electro-pop princess Uffie and Neptunes’ Pharrel Williams’ ‘Add Suv’ has been given the remix treatment by Armand Van Helden on Ed Banger! Armand’s Remix is a hot looping disco banger that shines against the vocoded vocals of Uffie.
Grammy Award winner and all around dance music icon King Britt
is evoking the NOW as compared to the past. He could easily sit on his accomplishments with Digable Planets or his hit remixes for Macy Gray, but Britt seems to want to look forwards not back. The latest single off his Intricate Beauty longplayer ‘Now’ features the etherial vocals of Astrid Suryanto. For the remixes, King Britt has handed the controls over to Sharam for a dramatic big room mix, and Soul Litchfield for a chilled downtempo vibe. The timeless vocals of Astrid Suryanto allow each of these mixes to stand apart from the rest.
Finally, we’re looking forward to next week with a new release on Ben Watt’s Buzzin’ Fly label from Pete Heller, Kaskade’s new long-player ‘Dynasty’ hits the store at a special introductory price, and Global Underground drops the next mixed series from Wally Lopez, and Strictly Rhythm’s ‘Volume 4’ arrives mixed by Charles Webster.
