What’s Hot In House
What’s Hot In House
12 July, 2010 | 9.16AMThe summer season is in full swing with festivals seeing record numbers in attendance everywhere from Electric Daisy Carnival in Los Angeles to the Eurockéennes de Belfort in France.
The height and popularity of these events has risen to significant proportions over the past few years, and the DJs performing are playing some major tunes; we survey the current crop, ranging from Subliminal sublabel Sondos
to the legendary Cutting Records
, in this week’s What’s Hot In House.
Rob Marmot and Juan Kidd, ‘Summer Breeze’ [Sondos]
Rob Marmot
, resident DJ for Pete Tong’s Wonderland, teams up with fellow Brit Juan Kidd
for a blissful summer vocal on Sondos. ‘Summer Breeze’ is a simple vocal hook with smooth, tribal tech house percussion perfect for the club, beach, or pod. Originally featured on Erick Morillo
‘s Subliminal ‘Voodoo Sessions’ LP, the track is now available as a single and is getting full support around the White Island.
DJ Chus, ‘Balerica 2010’ [Stereo Productions]
Spain’s Stereo Productions delivers a musical escapade in Part 2 of ‘Balerica 2010’, mixed and compiled by DJ Chus. The second installment of the LP is an intense selection of peaktime tracks for long after the sun has gone down. Highlights include Supernova’s remix of ‘Esta Loca’, the collaboration of Oscar G, DJ Vibe and Carlos Fauverille’s ‘Hot Room’, and Richie Santana’s ‘Low Frequencies’ 2010 remix. This is a true reflection of DJ Chus’ amazing DJ sets, with big tribal beats, one after the other.
2 in a Room, ‘Wiggle It’ [Cutting Records]
The mega hit ‘Wiggle It’ by 2 In a Room has been reworked for 2010! Originally released in 1990, the Latin house vibe of 2 in A Room scored a number one position on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play Chart and became a gold single for the group. Cutting Records has commissioned a fresh set of mixes for the dancefloor from Harry “Choo-Choo” Romero, Manufactured Superstars & Trent Cantrelle
, George Morel
, and Angel Manuel
.
Koen Groeneveld, ‘Disko Tek EP 2’ [Abzolut]
The dynamic sound of Koen Groeneveld continues to emerge with his latest release, ‘Disko Tek EP 2’. Spearheading the hard house sound in Holland in the late ‘90s, Koen has a deep discography that showcases how his sound has evolved over the years. In 2008 he scored two #1’s with ‘Wake Turbulence’ and Fatboy Slim
vs. Koen Groeneveld
‘s ‘Rockafeller Skank’. Abzolut is his label and the new ‘Disko Tek EP 2’ is a tough and funky piece of work with two tracks ready to rocket up the charts.
Matteo DiMarr, ‘F This Club’ / ‘Blower’ [Size Records]
Starting out on New York’s Emotive Records, Matteo DiMarr
has been producing consistently since the early ‘90s. Recently, the Toronto native has been putting tracks out on Toolroom
and his own Reinvent and Mar186 labels. DiMarr brings his latest work to Steve Angello
‘s Size Records. ‘Blower’ is a funky sax workout and ‘F This Club’ is a tribal drum stormer. DiMarr has hit the mark on this release with two great tracks to work into any part of a killer house set.
The Gathering, ‘In My System’ [Silver Network]
Chez Damier
introduced the Gathering, a collaborative project, in 2004. The latest reunion adds Jef K
of Silver Network and Chris Carrier
from Adult Only Records, creating a fresh vibe to the group. The result is a deep, underground track featuring raw keys and vocal samples. Strong support by a long list of heavy weights including Ricardo Villalobos
, Jesse Rose
, Heidi
, Ryan Crosson
, and Seth Troxler
.
