Weekend Weapons…Marco Bailey

Weekend Weapons…Marco Bailey

Celebrating 10 years of his MB Elektronics label, this week Marco Bailey [a] released ‘The Sixtieth’, a 19-track compilation featuring the likes of Tom Hades [a], Joseph Capriati [a], Wehbba [a], Cristian Varela [a], Aalberg & Angstrom, and more, along with a CD-length mix by Bailey himself.

The Belgian techno mainstay’s Weekend Weapons picks highlight the compilation’s range, from precision tech house to pumping punishment; he also includes his new Tronic single and Egberg’s new Gem Records release, for good measure. All told, it’s the perfect menu for those with an appetite for destruction.

When we reached out to Bailey for his Weekend Weapons, he asked if he could record a special video interview to accompany it, and so of course we said yes. Catch the self-professed workaholic in a rare moment of downtime. And don’t miss Bailey’s summer top 10 at the bottom of the post.

Marco Bailey, ‘Congonhas’ [Tronic]

Smithy has been a friend for many years, so I was glad to get a release on his label Tronic as well. ‘Congonhas’ is building up very funky with a BIG BLAST break!

Thomas Angstrom & Soren Aalberg, ‘Rue De La Future’ [MB Elektronics]

I have known these two guys from Denmark for a very long time, they run their label Girafe Sauvage with one great release after another. They did a great remix on my Bedrock release earlier this year, and now they delivered a top, groovin’, funky dancefloor killer for ‘The Sixtieth’ compilation on MB Elektronics. It’s one of those tracks that fit in every set, from club to festival. I love such tunes, not too hard but not too soft—just right!

Wehbba, ‘Ode To Constant’ [MB Elektronics]

Watch out for this Brazilian super-producer. After his great releases on Tronic Music and his upcoming album, my friend Wehbba delivered another great funky track for the sixtieth MB Elektronics release.

Redhead, ‘Clusters’ [MB Elektronics]

The perfect tune to open a big festival or big club night. Redhead’s productions sound quality one after another, not like they’re mixed in the kitchen! Steve aka Redhead is one of my best friends since years and has already made many statements on many labels. This tune starts with a nice intro melody and then kicks off with a big shout of noise. Perfect firestarter!

Loco & Jam, ‘Project X’ [MB Elektronics]

The two boys from the UK are workaholics, and I love those people. After great tunes on Umek’s 1605 and MB Elektronics 59, now another pumping, grooving techno stomper always in the powerful sets.

Egbert, ‘Haasten’ [Gem Records]

Great releases on Cocoon, great remix for MB Elektronics and now big dancefloor FIRE on his own Gem records. I like Haasten a lot and it has been kicking up my sets in the past few weeks every time!

The Advent & Industrialyzer, ‘Terraworld’ [MB Elektronics]

I think Cisco is one of the greatest producers of the past decade, an example for many who are now having success. More than 20 years of great releases, so not only a few years, but 20 YEARS!! After making one of MB Elektronics’ best releases, ‘Terra Nosa’, a couple of years ago, Ricardo and Cisco now deliver a kind of mashup of the two tracks from that release, naming it ‘Terraworld.’ Another peaktime techno monster!
