Weekend Weapons…Dennis Ferrer
Weekend Weapons…Dennis Ferrer
12 January, 2009 | 9.51AMWe get stuck back into our Weekend Weapons feature, this week with an entry from New York house legend Dennis Ferrer
.
Staunchly flying the flag for the Big Apple dance scene, Ferrer has been like a one-man production juggernaut since his ‘second-coming’ was heralded with the release of ‘Sandcastles’ alongside Jerome Sydenham
back in 2003.
His wide ranging production style has touched moments between classic afro-house, full-on melodic techno and much more in between; take ‘Son of Raw’, ‘Touched The Sky’ and ‘P 2 Da J’ as examples of the opposing styles Ferrer is capable of.
Ferrer’s Objektivity
label has been on a hot-streak since its inception back in 2006, releasing such show-stoppers as ‘Love Can Damage Your Health’, ‘A Black Man In Space’ and ‘Headphone Silence’.
Take into account also his club-smashing remix work for Fish Go Deep
and Blaze & Barbara Tucker and you begin to understand why we’re a bit excited to have secured him for this feature.
Ferrer’s big 3 are from his gig at the Objectivity night at Silo Leuven in Belgium on Saturday…

1. Mojoe ‘Look Over Feel’ (Marlow’s Konsequenz Mix) [Objektivity]
Moodymann
meets Soundstream
meets Objektivity
.
This is a perfect jacking track for us, as the groove keeps going and doesn’t let go.

2. Chaim ‘Rhythm Insurance’ [Bpitch Control]
This just grooves.
That vox sample just keeps your head nodding while the drums add to this effect.
Rough and raw just the way it should be: techy yet soulful - I’m still nodding my head to this.

3.The Martinez Brothers & Argy ‘Debbie Downer’ [Objektivity]
The ‘boys’ and Argy
team up for this one.
I love this - it gets everyone going, and I’ve been hammering it.
While it might be on my label, make no mistake—this one is worthy of a rare kudos on my part for things I am involved in.
