Weekend Weapons…Claude VonStroke

Weekend Weapons…Claude VonStroke

This week’s Weekend Weapons feature comes from San Francisco’s tech house don, Claude VonStroke [a].

As the mastermind behind the Dirtybird [l] and Mothership [l] imprints, VonStroke has helped oversee the release of some of the biggest tech house tracks of the last few years including Style of Eye’s recent bomb ‘The Big Kazoo’ and his own major hit ‘Who’s Afraid of Detroit’.

Claude was kind enough to share his current top three dancefloor destroyers with the Beatportal community. Over to Claude.

1. J. Phlip ‘Rumble Rumble’ [Dirtybird]

Get J. Phlip ‘Rumble Rumble’

Our newest Dirtybird and the first female member of the crew Jessica (J. Phlip) gave me this track a while ago and I have to say when you play it on your laptop or in your car it is impossible to realize the damage this sub bass monster delivers.

This track features a really dirty tech funk snake charmer sound that slides and whips on top, then a massive 40hz rumble drops and you can see the shockwaves roll through the crowd.

It always gives me chills. This one has to be heard on a proper soundsystem to be really appreciated.

2. Voodeux ‘Bones’ [Mothership]

If played at the wrong time this one can be a bit aggressive but if you have a crowd peaking and you want to rip their heads off, this track is the weapon of choice.

I have personally seen it destroy some dancefloors and it is the only track that ever had me almost jump out of the booth into the crowd.

It’s a mix between dark techno and drum & bass - just searing hot energy. A real evil piece of genius. These guys are poised for some real success next year.

3.Sascha Braemer & Philip Bader ‘Thrill’ [Kindisch]

Get ‘Thrill’ Sascha Braemer & Philip Bader on Beatport

I know this has been out for a minute but I am completely addicted to this groove.

I wish more producers would make music like this. It’s got the feeling of house but it is also has a straight ghetto funk vibe.

Then it goes super deep and turns into an unexpected minimal remake of ‘Billy Jean’ half way through the track.

This one always gets the room vibing and I think it’s the best thing on Kindisch [l] which is turning out to be a pretty cool label. A+!
