Weekend Weapons…Antix

Weekend Weapons…Antix

In contrast, to their name, New Zealand’s Antix [a]—aka the brothers Barton and Hayden Strom—are sounding slightly less antic on ‘Cavalier’, their fourth album. That’s not to say that they’ve turned their backs on the dancefloor; there are plenty of tough grooves to carry festival crowds through the peak hour. But ‘Cavalier’ also finds them experimenting with more laid-back electronica styles, while remixes from Hernan Cattaneo, Djuma Soundsystem, Jamie Stevens and more stray even further from the progressive-house status quo.

Below, the Strom brothers share their current faves from Vincenzo, Ripperton, and more.

Antix, ‘Under the Shade’ [Iboga]

This is one of our favorites from the album. A Moog Voyager lead, nice simple drums and great atmospheres.

Daryl Stay, ‘My Groove (Vincenzo Remix)’ [Franco Bolli]

This is a recent Beatport release. Im loving this style, quite different from Vincenzo’s other releases; it kind of reminds us of our style a bit.

Simon & Shaker & Teramik, ‘North Face’ [Armada]

A fairly old track, it came out a year ago, but it still packs a punch and holds ya down in this hypnotic groove.

Antix, ‘Lost & Found’ featuring Mark Ridout [Iboga]

Another fav from the ‘Cavalier’ album. We wrote this with our close friend Nicolai Kraus. We were going for something quite different with a rock influence and blinding melody. The track turned out really well, but it was crying out for a vocal. So we sent it off to the UK to our friend Mark who laid down the vocals and the results are, as you hear, fantastic.

Antix, ‘Out of Sorts’ [Iboga]

A deep tech-house number from the album. It has had a lot great feedback and we certainly enjoy it ourselves

Antix, ‘Under the Shade (Continuum Remix)’ [Iboga]

This mix is from our good mates from across the ditch in Melbourne Australia. They have been making some crackers of late and this one is no exception.

Antix, ‘Lost & Found (Jamie Stevens Golden Return Remix)’ [Iboga]

We were super stoked to have Jamie on board with the album. He and his band Infusion have been a great influence on us over the years and he made not only one but two remixes. We love them both.

Triangle, ‘Four’ [Flow Vinyl]

This track is another moniker of myself and Hayden, with friend Cyril Orson. This track has been described as dar disco tech… You decide.

Ripperton, ‘Random Violence’ [Green]

A beautiful, lush number, haunting pads. We love this new one by Ripperton, hot stuff.

Solead, ‘Hibiscus (Fiord Remix)’ [BUS]

We are big fans of Solead and love remixing them. They always have such cool sounds to use, and the remix packs are full. This mix turned out really good, and never fails to impress.
