Weekend Weapons…Tim Green
Weekend Weapons…Tim Green
7 January, 2010 | 7.51AMBritish techno hope Tim Green is likely to have a big 2010, following last year’s largely successful run of releases.
At the tail end, he remixed Tiefschwarz on the German duo’s label Souvenir Music, reworked house man-of-the-moment Riva Starr for Southern Fried, and ended the year on a high with a single out on Cocoon following his inclusion on the label’s new talent album ‘Cocoon Compilation I’ (produced alongside newcomer Emerson Todd) in June.
The deep and hypnotic techno throbbers he is known for have caught the attention of all the main techno spinners, including Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, and Dubfire, as well as San Francisco producer Claude VonStroke, who commissioned TG to remix the big hit ‘Vocal Chords’ from his latest album.
That all makes him the perfect candidate to kick off this year’s run of Weekend Weapons. The seven picks below represent the kind of sounds Tim Green is pushing in 2010.
Frankie Watch ‘Pif’ (Ernesto Ferreyra Pif Puf Paf Edit) [Ops Records]
Although this came out mid last year, I still can’t stop playing it. This is probably my fave track from last year, but I’ve find that not many people know it still. It has a great suspense right from the start, and builds really nicely. Plus the production is perfect in my opinion. Really heavy bottom end, with a perfect amount of shake and groove.
Levan ‘Another Life’ [FHD Records]
I love vocals in tracks, and this one is very hooky and simple. I love how the tracks builds and builds to the vocal, which doesn’t come in until half way through. It has a great groovy bassline too.
Tim Green ‘Lone time’ [Cocoon]
I usually take a while to write my tracks, but I wrote this track quite quickly. It started with the organ stabs and the snare parts in the drop down. I liked the idea of a creating a subtle grooving track, but with an OTT drop, haha!
Ike ‘Diskadenz’ [Philpot Records]
I love the sample in this. It’s a really fun track to play out, as it’s very loopy, but not massively pumping. So you can play about with it, and bring in extra kicks and percussion. It’s really nice to break up the flow in a set, and it has a more classic feel to it thanks to the samples and production.
Claude Von Stroke ‘Vocal Chords’ (Tim Green Remix) [Dirtybird]
It was fun remixing this track, but also slightly challenging. I wanted to originally use all the ‘vocal’ samples from the original, but I thought it restricted the direction of my remix as I wanted to make it quite dry and wobbly.
Lucio Aquilina ‘Out Run’ [Hideout]
A great early morning track with really lush melodies. Lucio has a real talent for these type of tracks in my opinion, and it’s so nice to play this track out!
Onno ‘Common Sense’ [Upon You Records]
Again I have been playing this track for a while now after Onno gave me an early version. Onno is definitely an up and coming producer to look out for. The vocal hook is so simple, and it gets played around with really well in the track. Great groovy house from a brilliant Dutch producer.
