Weekend Weapons: Tapesh
Weekend Weapons: Tapesh
1 October, 2010 | 6.08AMRiva Starr’s Snatch! Records label is only six months old, but, true to its name, it’s already grabbed the club world by the back of the neck and continues to throw it into a tailspin. Among the rising talents that Snatch! has snatched up is Düsseldorf’s Tapesh
, who recently teamed up with Maximiljan for the Wide Range EP, featuring two devastating tracks of loop-heavy house that ought to cut across scenes like a hot knife through warm wax. “Wide Range” has the kind of bassline that only comes around once in a long while, and “Tool de France” is a filtered tribute to the French touch that moves from caress to wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am.
We asked Tapesh to tip us to some surefire hits of the moment: read on for his picks, including cuts from Variante Music, Hardoul Pressings, Rejected![[a]](http://www.beatportal.com/images/site/misc/wiki_box_a.gif)
, and more.
Tapesh & Maximiljan, “Wide Range” [Snatch!]
“Wide Range” is tech house that’s both fun and funky, using a wheezing bassline to stick to a groove-laden agenda. The energy, force and moment are all kept up whilst that all-important layer of funk is supplied by some rather seductive percussion programming.
Mouj & Dan Lively, First Chapter EP [Variante Music]
This is the second release of Variante Music! On their latest two-tracker they prove why they’re in great demand right now. “The first Chapter” is a groovemonster right from the start. The playful percussions and a huge bassline make this one a true floorfiller. And the stompin’ David Pher remix gives the track a new touch. Huge build-ups and a rollin’ rhythm give the track a new vibe. “Now or Never” is going to win you over with its authentic jazzy drums, which give the track an edgy and shaky feel to keep you busy.
Hardsoul, “L.O.V.E. (= What You Need) (Tapesh Remix)” [Hardsoul Pressings]
It’s a brilliant warm-up tech-house track for those who want to party up!
Maher Daniel, “3rd Time Is a Charm” / Daniel Dubb, “Bring the Heat” [Rejected]
These tracks are two of my favorites, and Rejected is one of my favorite labels! That’s groovy.
Collins & Benham, “The King (Jay Lumen Remix)” [Noir Music]
I love this groovy beat and the classic acappella. Jay Lumen did a great remix!
Gary Beck, “Get Down” [Saved Records]
It’s the bomb! Dancefloor killer!!!!
Cajmere, “Percolator (Riva Starr Remix)” [Cajual Records]
Good job my man Riva Starr (like always)! Love to play “Percolator!” This track reminds me of the beginnings of the ‘90s! Green Velvet is back—yes!
Federico Locchi & UGLH, “Be House (Carlo Lio Remix)” [Supernature]
This track is one of my peak-time favourites! Great remix by Carlo Lio. Carlo Lio is anyway the man in the minute at the moment for me!
