Weekend Weapons: Stefano Noferini
2 December, 2010 | 5.00AMStefano Noferini’s Back As U Were EP is out on Deeperfect Records
this week, and it finds the Italian DJ and producer taking things back, well, as they were. “Big Bug” is a spirited slice of filtered disco-house heaven, and “Move Your Body” cops a sample that everyone will remember.
We asked Noferini to run us through some of the top tracks he’s spinning at the moment; read on for his picks and comments.
Liberty City & Murk, “Some Lovin” [Cr2 Records]
This track is the reference of my musical life and I was playing it back in ‘94. For me it’s absolutely brilliant and innovative, always a reference for the house music history and an inspiration for the sound that I’m looking for.
Riva Starr & Jessie Rose, “Start The Weekend” [Made To Play]
Disco funk is back, this track is an absolute icon of the genre. Riva Starr and Jesse Rose are the artists of the moment—filtered sound with impeccable groove, that’s the style that I prefer.
Steve Lawler, “Gimme Some More Feat. Roland Clark (Mendo Remix)” [Viva Music]
Oh my God, I played this track so many times and each time I’m still fascinated by the sound… Only Steve can conceive something like this, for my opinion he’s the best DJ ever for the quality of his set. The remix is designed by Mendo, with a touch of absolute class.
Cajmere “Percolator (Claude Van Stroke Remix)” [Cajual Records]
A classic track of ‘90s house history with an absolutely brilliant version by Claude. I think he’s the most innovative music producer of the year; this is a definitely must in my set.
Giuseppe Cennamo, “We Don’t Care” [Desolat]
Tribal current influence with deep sound. This is a very charming track that I have played for a long time, a sweet trip with a strong impact on the floor—I really like it.
AFMB, “Nasty Disposition” [Drumpoet Community]
A touch of class. I personally love this track: refinement and velvety sounds, great for a warm up in a “superclub,” everything magically fits and the result is a track without end. I can listen to this track several times through and it doesn’t bother me… Superb.
