Weekend Weapons…Nick Chacona

Nick Chacona chucks everything but the kitchen sink into his disco-tastic productions, yet at the atomic centre of his music is something which is not often found in Brooklyn, New York - pure golden sunshine. Yippee!

The 33-year-old’s music positively drips with loin-stirring randiness, but never disappears into a haze of beard-stroking instrumental clap trap, thanks to its Chicago dancefloor astuteness, and future-facing synthesizers (they’re far out, dude).

Thus he has graced a wide breadth of dance labels with his majestic ways, including progressive/deep house bastion Saw Recordings, UK tech house imprint 2020 Vision, indie dance pick-up Tiny Sticks, and his own Hector Works, which he runs with Anthony Mansfield.

With the disco ball once again shining proudly over clubland dancefloors in 2009, and techno fans having fallen head over heels for classic deep house recently, Chacona is primed for a fist-pumping high jump into mainstream recognition when his debut artist album ‘Love In The Middle’ drops in February on Mood Music.

From the tracklist, it seems it’ll tick all the right upswing boxes.

Brothers Vibe will provide tight housey percussion on the collaboration ‘Wait’, Mansfield and Chacona will deliver their usual dreamy synth-heavy disco jams (check out the album’s first single ‘Especial’), and disco queen Kathy Diamond will bring some fabulous vocal glitter to the track ‘The Fear’.

Throw in a remix from house-man-of-the-moment Levon Vincent, and everyone will surely be happier than the male coach of the Danish women’s beach volleyball team.

Roy Dank just turned me on to this. It’s truly forward thinking dance music, and it really gets me smiling.
