Weekend Weapons: Manuel De La Mare

Weekend Weapons: Manuel De La Mare

It’s that time of year when we find ourselves stocking up on seasonal essentials, in anticipation of the sun-kissed months ahead: time to replace last year’s ratty shorts, update our t-shirt collection, maybe invest in a new pair of shades. Fans of Manuel De La Mare [a] and his Hotfingers [l] label can add another item to their checklist: Hotfingers Summer Hangovers, a 16-track collection with a distinctly Mediterranean touch.

We asked Manuel to share a selection of the hangover helpers in his medicine cabinet; read on to check’em out.

Alex Kenji vs. Federico Scavo, “Get Funky” [Hotfingers]

I think only Alex can make this killer groove: the simplest house beat & bass ever, but impossible to reproduce (even if too many guys are trying to copy it)!

Mark Knight [a] vs. Florence & The Machine, “You Got The Love (Original Mix)” [Toolroom]

Mark sent me the final version of this mix some weeks ago and I’m playing in all my sets. I do hope for all the DJs out there it will be released soon, it’s wonderful!

Roy Rosenfeld, “Pimpin In Sanaa (Luigi Rocca Remix)” [303lovers]

Fresh track from our 303lovers family… You can get easily hypnotized by this sample. Luigi’s remix has a bumping groove and an aggressive bassline; I always play this at the beginning of my sets.

León, “Cause I Love You” [Cecille Numbers]

The drop in this tune is huge, the vocals can make me cry from happiness, the snare rolls are crazy! For me one of the best tracks lately.

Selda, “Lift Your Hands Up (DJ PP Remix)” [Tiger Records]

DJ PP never goes wrong with his trademark groove, here with a super uplifting break and a cool house bass line.

Mario Ochoa, “Booyah” [Hotfingers]

We are going to warm you up… Flowers are in bloom and Latin is coming back, getting ready for a Hotfingers summer.

Fedde Le Grand [a], “Metrum” [Toolroom]

I’m remixing this track, and the original mix is always in my DJ set. No preview yet, and I should not even describe it, but if you were at Ministry of Sound Friday the 15th, for sure you heard me playing it!

Mory Kante, “Yeke Yeke (Robbie Rivera Remix)” [Juicy Music]

After Richie Hawtin dropped this a couple of years ago at Beatport Pool Party, I never played again. But I’m glad Rivera did this remix—perfect for big-room dancefloors; eventually I’m able to remember that wonderful day in Miami while I’m spinning!
