Weekend Weapons: Magda
Weekend Weapons: Magda
27 July, 2011 | 2.24AMThe London underground party series A Night With… hosts the one and only minimal disco goth on August 13, when Items & Things’ Magda takes over the decks for an eight-hour set, 10pm til 6am, at a secret location.
In anticipation of the event, we asked Magda to share a list of her Weekend Weapons with us. The results mix up the new with the old (with the really old), offering a killer snapshot of exceptional tracks that aren’t bound by fads or novelty. Just like A Night With… Magda, these cuts are in it for the long haul.
See Maouris and Resident Advisor for tickets and information about the party, and keep reading for Magda’s selections and comments. And don’t miss the new release on Magda, Marc Houle and Troy Pierce’s label Items And Things: Danny Benedettini’s “Tell Me Quietly.” It’s number one (with a bullet!) below…
Danny Benedettini, “Nephastum” [Items and Things]
This is a killer track with a very catchy hook that sits in between house and techno perfectly. A great weekend weapon.
Marius Vareid, “Netlop (Prins Thomas Remix)” [Full Pupp]
Slow, stripped-down acid disco filler. Nice to start a set or to throw in between tracks.
A Number Of Names, “Shari Vari (Ectomorph Remix)” [Puzzlebox]
Nothing beats the original version, but this one is also really nice.
Thomas Brinkmann, “Walk With Me” [Curle]
Brinkmann is one of my favorite producers. He definitely has his own unique sound.
Run Stop Restore, “Suck My Christmas” [Telegraph]
My first track ever with Marc Houle as Run Stop Restore. Brings back funny memories.
The Selph, “An Anxious Friend” [Amam]
A great, bassy, hypnotic track. Perfect for the club.
MD3 (aka Mike Dunn), “Personal Problem” [Clone Classic Cuts]
Dirty, old-school acid house. Always a pleasure.
Sebo K, “Too Hot” [Mobilee]
A fun, old-school acid-house track I just revisited from 2005.
Avatism, “Mondo Tredici” [Haunt]
A beautiful, haunting piano when you feel too happy and wanna scare yourself a bit.
Audio Werner, “Still Jackin’” [Hartchef]
This used to be my favorite track to close the night with. Got everyone dancing and in a good mood.
