Weekend Weapons: Gemini
Weekend Weapons: Gemini
27 September, 2011 | 2.05AMChanging the game through his own creations, Gemini has written, performed and sung his way into dubstep’s top tier. The sudden success of his debut dubstep release, ”Blue," finds him sought by many mainstream artists as a remix producer. His drum ‘n’ bass production shouldn’t be overlooked either; ”Without You,” the title track off of the EP on John B’s Beta Recordings has become one of the label’s biggest songs. To continue the journey, Gemini has released a new dubstep endeavor this month called ” Graduation,” featuring the young star’s vocal talents and exploring in greater depth the sound that has proven to be such a success for him.
We asked the 21-year-old Leicester, UK native about the tracks that are inspiring him and tearing up his sets at the moment; read on to discover his picks.
Nero, “Crush on You” [MTA Records]
Dancefloor destroyer featuring an ‘80s sample from The Jets, what more could you ask for?
Gemini, “Vision” [Inspected Records]
Classical segments devoured by distorted bass throttle, the only way I describe this one.
Subscape, “Apple Candy” [Dub Police Records]
This one is beautiful: it’s a weapon in its own right. Silence, but deadly.
Doctor P, “Tetris” [Circus]
Gameboy bleeps and bass? Great mosh-pit starter.
Ellie Goulding “The Lights (Bassnectar Remix)” [Amorphous Music]
Excellent remix, strong bassline, and beautiful vocals from the one and only Ellie Goulding. Simple but effective.
Gemini, “Graduation” [Inspected Records]
Timeless, entranced, a wall of sound. An emotional heart-warmer that is unexpected.
