Weekend Weapons…Dubfire and Oliver Huntemann
6 May, 2010 | 6.53AMUS DJ Dubfire
and German producer Oliver Huntemann’s close working relationship bore new fruit this month.
‘Fuego’, a dark and twisted techno throbber from the pair of sometimes collaborators, is sonically closer to Dubfire’s 2007 solo hit ‘Ribcage’ than the duo’s last frenetic outing, ‘Dios’.
With a tick tock of drones and a somewhat eerie tension, the track is big on atmosphere and low on the dramatic techno set pieces that both producers tend to fall back on in the studio.
Certainly, the tracks that both artists have picked for this week’s Weekend Weapons suggests a growing affinity for experimentation. With subtle deep house from Masomenos, a Strictly Rhythm house classic, and wonky techno from MMM, the net extends a bit further than the pristine, nitrous-fueled bleep sounds that Dubfire champions so persuasively.
Here are six bombastic cuts straight from the DJ boxes of these two great techno players.
Oliver Huntemann’s Weekend Weapons
Slam ‘Room 2’ (Pan-Pot Rave Tool Mix)
Slam remixed by Pan-Pot? That’s a chalk and cheese match. A big room tool which works perfectly during the prime time. Straight and cool. A sure shot!
Pupkulies & Rebecca ‘Burning Boats’ (Masomenos Remix)
This is deep and super sexy, and the right tune for a sunrise set at the upcoming beach parties and open air festivals. Looking forward to the summer so that I can finally play this track out.
Gary Beck ‘Elisse’
As everybody knows, we love dark stuff and Gary Beck definitely provides darkness in a great way. ‘Elisse’ comes with massive tribal grooves and a thrilling atmosphere. Monotonous, but never for too long.

MMM [Errorsmith & Fiedel] ‘Nous Sommes MMM’
Villalobos played this at Timewarp, and I just lost my mind. I had no idea who it was until I heard Boyznoise play it recently. Thanks for the ID Alex!
Sun Sun Sun ‘Curious’ (Instrumental Mix)
My two vinyl copies of this absolute deep house classic from the once-reliable Strictly Rhythm label are completely worn down and scratched so I was thrilled to find this online! This was a secret weapon in my sets for countless years and is in my opinion one of John and Lem’s finest moments.
Broombeck ‘Delivery’ (Deep Mix)
Out of all the mixes in this package, this is the one that’s the most restrained. Super tight production, arrangement and breakdowns from a producer I’ve always had my eye on.
