Weekend Weapons…Dirty Vegas

Grammy Award-winning British dance trio Dirty Vegas recently produced a live mix from one of the world’s best clubs - Sankeys in Manchester - as part of the Stealth Live! mix compilation series.

Paul Harris, Ben Harris, and Steve Smith used two mixers, two laptops, and four CDJs for their live show, dubbed ‘a live concerto of interlaced beats, vocals, percussion and effects, set in an intimate environment, with an up-for-it crowd’.

About the mix, Smith said, “When we played Stealth Live! at Amnesia this year, we showcased our new DJ/live set. This includes us playing a DJ set with live percussion, vocals and FX, where we can fuse a live performance with a DJ show, making each Dirty Vegas DJ show unique. We are so excited, that Stealth has given us the chance to record this kind of one-off show live in a club environment.”

Ben Harris continued, “We were honoured to be asked to do the new Stealth Live! CD and we loved the idea that it was going to be recorded live in a club.

“Paul and I had four decks hooked up to two mixers and Steve played live percussion and sung. The CD brings the whole night together, from the house, tech, and tribal music, to the live percussion and vocals mixed with noise from the crowd on the floor. It was a great night!”

This year Dirty Vegas played live at Glastonbury and Creamfields, and on the production tip, they remixed Calvin Harris and Dizzie Rascal’s ‘Dance Wiv Me’, as well as Ladytron’s ‘Tomorrow’. They are currently busy readying their third artist album (due for release in early 2010).

With Dirty Vegas once more back on the mainstage, we asked the trio to reveal their current crop of Weekend Weapons.

Death Metal Disco Scene ‘21’ (Dirty Vegas Remix) [Stealth]

This track was done by my good friend David Billing and I fell in love with the original the moment I heard it.

We had been talking for ages about Dirty Vegas doing a remix for him and this was the perfect track. Great vocal and the production on the original is fantastic! A very talented guy.

Art of Tones ‘Call The Shots’ (Llorna Naive Remix) [2020 Vision]

I have three words to say about this track: ‘Fucking love it!’. The return of proper house music!

Santos ‘Hold Home’ [Moon Harbour]

It has been around for a while now, but this track was an instant classic the minute it was made. It always gets the kids passing their phones to you in the DJ booth asking what the track is.

Johnny D ‘Gardaness’ [Oslo]

Johnny D consistently makes brilliant music and he has done it again here. Nuff said!

Danito, Emill De Moreu ‘Puedes Tocarme’ [Tapas Recordings]

This is a proper builder! All the way to the drop, and that stab comes out of nowhere! A great peak time record.

Paul Harris & Obernik ‘The Take’ (Sultan & Ned Vocal) [Harem]

Still doing the damage after all this time, and new mixes have just been added.

Nightriders ‘Take My Hand’ (Dirty Vegas Remix) [Stealth]

This is a remix we did a few months ago, and it’s just seeing the light of day now. It never fails on the dancefloor.

Cindy Gomez ‘Again & Again’ (Pete Tong, Paul Harris, & Paul Rogers Dub) [Interscope]

File under club weapon! Coming soon!
