Weekend Weapons: Butch

Weekend Weapons: Butch

Bülent Gürler used to go by his own name before switching to the pseudonym Butch [a], which was probably a wise move: the alias is short, memorable, and to the point, a perfect fit for the Frankfurt area producer’s no-nonsense style of deep, jacking house. (It’s perhaps a less than perfect fit for his current press photos, which couldn’t be much less butch—although flowers are a good look too.)

His track ‘XTC’ is currently sitting pretty in the Beatport top 10, just the latest success in a year full of well-received releases for Cecille [l], SCI+TEC Digial Audio, Connaisseur Recordings [l], Trapez [l], Area Remote [l], and Bouq, the label he runs with fellow Mainz producer Amir.

Butch’s Weekend Weapons selection runs down some tasty new releases from Bouq, Rush Hour, and more, and whets our taste buds with forthcoming material from Santos, Amir, and Sebastian Lutz. Readon for his picks, and don’t forget to check out his most recent Beatport Top 10.

Santos, ‘Sinus Disco’ [Rockets and Ponies]

It’s a sick track like only Santos can do, based on simple grooves and a sick psychedelic sine tone that is slowly morphing. I think this one will blow your mind if you are in the right mood. (Out soon on Rockets and Ponies.)

Amir, ‘Guernica’ [Trapez]

This track from Amir is a loopy spherical track with vocals that will kill your brain. Be careful after the break, the crowd will be like “BOOOOM”! (Forthcoming from Trapez ltd.)

Amir, ‘Brooklyn Bridge’ [Off]

Old-school shit presented in a high quality new production that only Amir could engineer. (Forthcoming from Off.)

Zappe, ‘Larry’s Exotic Blend (Remastered Version)’ [Bouq]

This one has got some ass-kicking, crazy vocal loops that’ll make you shake your booty to the ground.

Alex Dolby & Giorgio Roma, ‘Viola (Remastered Version)’ [Bouq]

I really love the mood of this song. All single shots like the sax and the vocals are perfectly in time. Perfect for me to start my sets.

Butch, ‘Relief’ [Bouq]

1 2 3 4 boom! This is one of my simpler tracks, but it works way too well on the floor.

Sebastian Lutz, ‘Alchemist’ [Paso Music]

This is the kind of minimal that I really love. (Forthcoming from Paso Music.)

Butch, ‘XTC’ [100% Pure]

I play the ‘XTC’ track in the end of my shorter sets; it’s like a final showdown for me.

Robert Hood presents Floorplan, ‘Funky Souls’ [Rush Hour]

Another old-school flavored track with a simple structure. I just play this track as a loop and do all the filtering, re-arranging, and effects by myself.
