Weekend Weapons: Blokhe4d
Weekend Weapons: Blokhe4d
21 March, 2011 | 6.54AMLately it seems like everyone is forming a supergroup, one of those multifaceted collaborations of talents and egos that brings together various skills and styles to form something completely new and unique—or simply to create more generic tripe that pushes the boundaries forward so little, the boundaries might as well be moving backwards.
But before all this, drum & bass had one real, OG supergroup: Bad Company. Featuring the now famous DJ Fresh
, dBridge, Maldini, and Vegas, the group went on to dominate the drum & bass scene with its unique style of hard-edged beats and basslines. With several key members eventually leaving and pursuing their own successful solo careers, the act eventually became no more.
One of Bad Company’s offshoots was Blokhe4d, featuring Michael Wojcicki (Vegas) alongside Jonas Ullmann (Uman). The duo went to release several records on Hospital Records
and had hits on the Bad Taste imprint. With their new compilation Bad Taste Volume 4 out, we caught up with the pair to see what tunes they’re currently rolling.
Blokhe4d, “Beyond the Void” [Bad Taste]
This is definitely a weapon! The intro gets peoples’ attention like a naked chick doing the splits on the Tube! We bet you will look.
Blokhe4d, “The Way Life Used To Be” [Hospital Records]
A big tune on a big label. Hospital were smart to pick this one. It’s been smashing it up in a very soft way!
Aeph, “Bad Wolf” [Bad Taste]
Italian-born Londoner Aeph
is doing great things at the moment. This is a dubstep tune that does not fit the oh-so-rigid dubstep formula. It samples the Teen Wolf soundtrack and makes you want to howl in delight!
Telekinesis, “The Lost Galaxy” [Bad Taste]
The Slovenian duo have been on top form! This tune is straight-up future funk! We have been playing this tune out all over the place and are more than happy that it’s coming out on Bad Taste 4!
Wilkinson, “Moonwalker” [RAM]
This tune is the musical equivalent of a really intense drug rush! If you don’t know this tune or have not danced like a fool to it already, chances are you live in a cave. Oohgabuga!!
Feed Me & Kill The Noise, “Muscle Roller” [Mau5trap]
This is what it sounds like when worlds collide. Drum & bass kingpin Spor
teams up with Kill The Noise
to make one nasty bitch of a tune! It’s like dubstep eating Justice
and puking it back up all over Skrillex’s head!
